The Phils don’t trade veterans unless it’s a position they have covered. If they trade Victorino, it will be for a younger cost-controlled CF like Rasmus. They won’t trade Victorino or Hamels for prospects. Learned a lesson with Cliff Lee.

I would say that is a bit different because the Cliff Lee seemed like it was quantity over quality.

Jim Bowden says do something? you’re probably best served doing the opposite.

No kidding on Boston.. It’s why they can and probably will be moving youk and Salty before the 7/31 deadline, though for different reasons than the Phillies.. Boston HAS a loaded system, it’s at the lower (A-AA) levels and just needs to clear positions for their 2 more than ready positional players in Lavarnway and Middlebrooks.

“If I had another daughter, I’d love if she married a David Wright,” said Wilpon.
That’s not really a compliment Fred…

If Jim Bowden knew jack slap about running a baseball team he would probably still be doing it.

“Bowden also opines that the Red Sox should explore the trade market.”
Now why didn’t Cherington think of that?
Chris
why would anyone try to trade for hamels with out him agreeing to a new contract with a team he gets traded to? would be stupid by any team to give up their farm for an arm for 3 months. especially if he decides to go back to philly in the off season. would sound like another cliff lee kinda deal.

Because teams like to win? CC Sabathia’s trade to the Brewers is an example of this strategy. I don’t think the Brewers are missing those prospects they traded for him these days.

because making the playoffs (And, if wildcard, using Hamels in a that one game do-or-die playoff) would make the move pay off, especially for a fringy contender.

If the Nats aren’t moving Wang to the bullpen then they need to trade him or Jackson, because Detwiler has been fantastic and earned his spot.
