100 million dollar contract?
Try 160-200 minimum.
No way this guy doesn’t get CC sabathia money
stl_cards16
I think he’s saying after this season he could potentially ask for $100MM if he has another strong season. Not when he hits Free Agency. If he hits Free Agency, he should set the record for largest pitching contract ever.
Lunchbox45
even before FA, that number seems a little low. The guy is only 24 and has 3 dominant years under his belt already with no sign of slowing down.
a 5 year extension at 20 million or 4 year extension at 25 million seems a bit short.

MLBTR obviously doesn’t know how much CK will ask for. Don’t be so literal. by the writer saying “could ask for a 100M contract”, he’s saying anywhere in the 100-199M range. cmon man
Lunchbox45
thats terrible logic.

It’s easy to get held up on wording. Really he could have been looking at 6/100m when he signed his two-year deal this past off-season. 3/35m for arb years, 3/65m for free agent years. Any Dodger fans know/remember if an extension was discussed with Kershaw prior to 2011? Seems crazy that an arm that talented & productive would get that far without the team throwing a serious offer his way. Or for that matter, the last young stud given a long-term deal by the club early in his career that lasted more then two years>
If I’m not mistaken, Felix Hernandez & Justin Verlander signed their 75-80m deals after their fourth season, which for Kershaw would be after this year. Hard to imagine the Dodgers lucking out like that unless Kershaw has a down year for him.

how is it terrible logic? it makes perfect sense. when we make FA projections, no one knows the exact amount someone will sign for or ask for. We assume guys will sign for 40M or 50M or 100M, but if it ends up 44M or 53M or 120M, no big deal.
sure Kershaw could ask for more than 100M, but how much more, who knows. it’s easier to just say he’ll want a 100M contract. doesn’t mean 100 on the nose. just in the vicinity

If he ever does hit free agency, it is no secret here in Texas, the Rangers will break the bank to try to sign this hometown kid. Either way, he will set a new record for a contract .

$100 million a year? Wow! That is what you meant, right Smith?

Negotiations via semaphore, however, are going well

In other breaking news, Bryce Harper and Stephen Strasubrg could get expensive in a few years too.
monkeydung
while they are both awesome, neither of them have accomplished close to what Kershaw has accomplished, and Strassburg is the same age as Kershaw.
vtadave
Well aware of that. My sarcasm was related to the obviousness of the fact Kershaw is going to get a huge contract.
dodger_fanatic
Why must we always have to explain ourselves? It’s obvious we are all talking about a HUGE contract for Kershaw. Quit squabbling about numbers. Dodger fans should be pulling together these days. Come on now…!
