This is what I like to hear.
Trade a few prospects that are at logjam positions for pitching. Lots of good names available right now and then the jays will have some pitching in place at the major league level to be able to allow kids like hutchison and alvarez proper time to develop without being rushed.

Wait, who are the players you hear that are available. Right now it sounds like there are very few good names on the market. Garza is good. That’s about all I have.

I’m sure AA is gonna exhaust every avenue to improve this team
chreeschan
Strohman won’t sign, book it.

Blue Jays shouldn’t be making any serious moves to go for it this year, their team just isn’t good enough in the AL East, getting guys that help this year for cheap makes sense but if you give up significant prospects need to be for someone that will still be around and playing well in 3 years
Lunchbox45
you can improve the team this year and in the future with the same move..
like acquiring Rasmus and Escobar the last few years
Jon Stark
A number of rental players would not mean they were mortaging the future. IT might even represent an attempt to protect the development path of some of their prospects and arms.

This guy gets more quotes on mlbtr than anyone. Does the Toronto media shove AA down everyone’s throat, or does he just like to talk?
Lunchbox45
both
Jon Stark
problem is that he doesn’t really say much (in terms of content) when he talks. So even if you get a lot of sound bytes, you often don’t really get a lot of interesting information. (stuff on draft picks IS interesting).
jedicouncil
not too sure about that, he fell further than he probably expected to (in a weak draft year), and it wasnt due to signability issues. AA is probably going slot at most with him to try to sign post round 10 picks. hes got a great arm but AA wont overpay, he will take the choice next year if hes not happy.

This was the comp pick for Tyler Beede. You don’t get a comp pick for a comp pick. If you fail to sign him, then that pick is gone for ever.
TtDsufc
New CBA retroactively gives two years of cover on a pick. Jays can not sign Stroman and get a third shot next year.

after hearing the troubles of the rockies and that they need to start fresh and rebuild, while at the same time maybe looking to freeing up money, maybe this would be a good time to try to pry away cargo from them.
i heard they wanted to shed payroll, seeing as they will not be contending for a while, so maybe a package of 2 top 5 prospects + 1 mid + 1 MLB player maybe enough. also i believe they are very weak on the pitching prospects front and we are loaded with pitching prospects so the a deal between the two isn’t out of the question.
this may also be the “Anthopoulos also acknowledged that they could take on payroll in the right situation” AA was referring to.
