Even though the GM knows that the club has to show progress on the field, he insists that he won’t be swayed by popular opinion and won’t rush into making a move. Well no one wants to make a deal with the Blue Jays.
Phillies: “They’re not young. They’re not healthy. And their system is thin,” the scout said. No Shoes! Did Chuck Lamar state this?

what did get out of that?

They HAVE shown progress on the field. I’m a Yanks fan; I see them a lot. But 2/3 (I believe) of their first-line rotation is now sitting on the DL. You try making your big run in that division if you lose 3 of the 5 best starters in the organization for an extended period. Here’s a hint: you won’t be able to.

I believe the statement was directed from the scout to the Phillies, not the Blue Jays, as they are young and have a deep farm system.

” However, one exec noted that Anthopoulos seems to “[call] about everyone.” That’s what he wants you to think.

He does though… he just hasn’t added the guy to put them over the hump.

because that player doesn’t exist.
Dane McBurnie
At the moment, that player is actually a doctor.

Ha, I love that AA calls all the time about everyone. Maybe he’ll get someone to give him what he wants so he’ll quit calling!

Isn’t that an old fantasy baseball trick? Get them tired of rejecting trades and a little confused too.

I can appreciate that Wren finally has some dough to spend on free agents. Soler would have been a nice piece, especially if Bourn leaves.

If a team with a better winning reputation with the Cubs was after him at the same price then why didn’t he pick them? Don’t get me wrong I’m happy for the Cubs and it’s great to know not everyone is about the money and winning potential but it’s just surprising to see to see him choose along those lines.

Chicago is a very attractive destination. Even as a Cardinals fan, I have to admit it would be tempting to want to be a piece of the team that finally wins it all. You would be an instant legend.
RiverKKiller999
I doubt you’ll have to worry about them “winning it all”.
Havok9120
I did hear all kinds of rumors (going back awhile) about Soler’s camp and the Cubs people having close ties since forever.

It might have had something to do with the terms of the contract. I bet the Braves weren’t willing to let him out out and go to arbitration.

Sign with a bad team, have a better chance of getting to the Show sooner. Start the arbitration clock earlier.
