Anyone know if Boston is over the supposed cap for signing draftees, I keep hearing people talk about it, being penalized if they go over.
MaineSox
They can go up to 5% over their cap without losing picks (they would have to pay a 75% tax, but they wouldn’t lose any future picks). Right now they are projected to be over – by less than 5% – but it depends on what Johnson and Maddox sign for.

They’re going to go over the allotted pool. They only have Maddox left to sign (of the top 10 Rd picks) and they’re down to $192,800. Maddox’s slot is $400,500. But so long as they sign Maddox to $530k or under they will not lose any picks next year.
MaineSox
Maddox is reportedly going to sign for under slot, so they should have some money left to go after a guy or two in the later rounds (still think they can get Martin signed).
Alex Wu
it would be idiot to sign
Brian Johnson at MLB recommend bonus which is very likely that red sox will lose 2013 first round pick

$2.05 to Marrero, $1.575MM to Johnson
I was disappointed at poor negotiating power of Red Sox office and the result.
Why did they select college players?
I was glad to hear about inexpensive contracts(Light, Buttrey and Callahan)
But good estimation has been negated by recent two signings.
Maybe R S would be unable to sign high upside high school athletes because of overpaid p
