Omar would be a fit in Atlanta as well!
EightMileCats
I like the Infante to Detroit idea. Anyone have any idea how long he’s under contract for?
wrestlingcritic
thru ’13. he has a .290 avg and more hits than he does games played
Brandon
2013 and his contract was for 2 yrs/8mil so very reasonably priced. A very good athletic defender who can flat hit, has some extra base pop and can steal a base from time to time. He would be a great fit for the Tiger’s and in my opinion when you combine everything I think would be the best option of any of the rumored/possible second baseman.

The Tigers never should have gotten rid of Infante (they traded him for the execrable Jacque Jones after the 2007 season). Infante made a key error in August 2006 and I don’t think Leyland ever forgave him — soon after that the Tigers traded for the even more execrable Neifi Perez and Infante rode the bench for the next year plus.

santa asked for his release… heard rumors of a hand injury, which doesn’t explain why they didn’t just put him on the disabled list or at worst the restricted list… hopefully we get more info at some point
Josh Gedert
Santa was released because he couldn’t get his visa for the US…
Jonathan Sisk
wasn’t he just 16-17 though? why wouldn’t they just play him in the DR and try to resolve that down the road… or did he have an issue that would permanently disallow him from getting a visa?
Josh Gedert
I think he was a bit older.. And it said he requested his release because he’s been trying two years to get the visa, but failed.
Jonathan Sisk
where you hearing this from? he was supposedly signed last july as a 16 year old which would make him 17 now… why would he have been trying to get a visa as a 15 year old with no job here? could he not even get a travel visa to come to work outs or something? that would mean he had some communicable disease or was a convicted felon of some sort… doesn’t add up

Hard time with the words “trade chip” and the name of Carl Pavano being linked together. It’s not like he is doing well this year, last year and is being paid cheaply at 8m.
LazerTown
I heard the Yankees are interested. They have requested a window for negociations before any trade would be finalized.
johnsilver
THAT would be funny. he would be Drawn-n-Quartered in the Bronx…
Lefty
Carl Pavano could have been a potential trade chip for the Twins
A Trade Chip? I wouldn’t have given the Twins a potato chip for him even if he were healthy. A trade chip…
On a more serious note, what happened to Santiago for the Tigers? I always thought he was pretty good and really on the same level as Infante. I guess not this year.
Man though, I thought the O’s were going to come out firing after the all-star break and work towards getting that Wild Card game like Verducci predicted.
Maybe tomorrow,lol.

I wouldn’t mind a Drew/Infante SS/2B combo for the Tigers. Although, I’m not sure Peralta would want a utility role 2B/SS/3B and Drew’s injury history makes me nervous.
EightMileCats
Peralta has been decent enough to warrant his option being picked up. Drew worries me. Let’s see if anyone is available after next season.
Infante would be great however. Bat him 2nd or 6th
Wonder how much Miami would want for him
wrestlingcritic
I dont think hed be THAT expensive, maybe a couple of lower level prospects
snapcase8p
Yeah he’s been decent but with us already having 2 pitchers that rely on ground balls (Fister/Porcello) Drew would help strengthen our defense. Not to mention Turner is another sinker baller waiting in the wings. With Arizona already questioning Drew’s commitment and his missed time, it might be a good time to buy low.

I could see a Brantley/Oliver (or mid level prospect) being enough for Infante.
$28892250
Yea, my guess would be a package of Oliver and Putkonen (mid level and high level mixed bag) or something along those lines. I don’t think they go as high as a Daniel Fields or Crosby-type. Maybe Brantly and a small piece..

Who’s Drew?
Patrick OKennedy
Stephen Drew. Arizona SS.

Not a big deal but the article was writen by Ben Badler who does a great job at BA with all things international.

I have to say, as a Marlins fan, Omar Infante made an impression on me last season, and I’m his fan. I would hate to see him go. However, even though he started strong, he has been going through a slump the past couple of months. I would understand if the Marlins traded him, especially given how bad they are in the NL East.

Bring Omar back to the D! I always liked the guy when he was here (as did the majority of the fan base) and would welcome him back with open arms.
