Would it take a lot to get Edison Volquez? My guess would be yes.
rfffr
Volquez and upgrade shouldn’t be used in the same sentence unless that sentence is Volquez is not an upgrade.
sdsuphilip
Volquez would actually be the Braves third best starter this year, so yes it would be a upgrade.
Clayton Wilson
Oh yes, Volquez is exactly what the Braves need. Another starter with control issues. I take it you haven’t checked his home/away splits? Turner Field isn’t PETCO and a 1.529 WHIP isn’t going to cut it. Makes no sense for the Braves, but I’m sure they’ll give him a look if the price is a couple of fringe-prospects……which it should be.
sdsuphilip
Who cares if he has controll issues if he is an upgrade for the team? He is a valuable mid rotation starter outside of a hr friendly ballpark. He would do fine in turner field and put up numbers like a mid rotation arm. Also not all whips are equal, Volquez high walk total hurts his whip a ton but is minimized because that is just 1 base.
Clayton Wilson
Ok, shall I use his split ERA instead of WHIP? Maybe his FIP away from PETCO? All suggest his ‘bounce back’ season is a product of his park…..
gregdiehardbravesfan
we sure dont need a guy who used steroids but give the kid delgado the ball and cut jj
Oscar Pinckney
Cutt jj slow down not so fast there buddy I still think jj earn the respect to at least try to prove himself again for a year or two.

“Though plans can change.” why Amaro do you always play the same card before every big move? Earlier today Cliff was not going anywhere but now anything can happen? This leads me to believe Cliff will be packing his bags soon especially if the Braves win tomorrow. Sadly, I’m hoping they do win so Amaro can focus on making some moves that will keep this team competitive in the coming years. If that means shipping Lee, Pence, and Victorino for some young promising players then so be it. Just please Amaro don’t run this team so far into the ground that it will take years to get back up.
Clayton Wilson
I’d rather the Braves just stand pat on the SP end now. Go ahead and put Medlen in and acquire someone like Davis who can be a reliable long-relief option or insurance in case Medlen stinks up the joint. Stay away from Volquez and don’t mortgage the future for an inconsistent Shields……
Oscar Pinckney
If the braves can pick up both volquez and shield without giveing up on the number one prospect I would take that in a heart beat. This is a long shot but I have seen crazy things happen before.

wow really Reyes, Guillen, and Buehrle don’t regret coming to Florida? Both players have back weighted contracts, so they are going to wait until after they get their $ before saying anything about their choices.
wnymetsfan
The players get their money no matter what. Besides this is the Marlins so both will be gone as soon as the big money comes due on their contract. Sure the Marlins strictures the contracts like that on purpose as they thought they could make a run before selling.
patburn
I know that. But you never know in Buehrle’s case, if he speaks up, he could be treated like how Ryan Madson was in his last season with the Phillies and just over taxed which could lead to injuries (and he just said he was going where the money was after the season).

Seriously Frank Wren? Those guys aren’t worth trading for at all. Call the Red Sox again about Lester, and bring the name Beckett into the talks as well. Call the Marlins and ask about Josh Johnson. Call the Brewers about Marcum, and heck ask about Yovani Gallardo. We don’t need a guy just to throw out there to say he is a starter, we need a guy who can pitch in the playoffs. Hudson and Sheets are good, but you need that 3rd guy.
AKA_brotherfox
“Jose Reyes, Mark Buehrle and Ozzie Guillen told reporters (including Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post) that despite the Marlins’ struggles, they don’t regret coming to Miami.”
Then it must be true.
Connie Marse
I’d opt for Wade Davis and Ryan Roberts.
