White Sox get:
RHP Zach Greinke
Blue Jays get:
RHP Gavin Floyd
OF Trace Thompson
Brewers get:
LHP Nicolino
OF Jarred Mitchell
vtadave
TraYce Thompson has speed and power, but he also is currently hitting .236 after hitting .241 last year. I don’t see them giving up Nicolino unless it’s in a package for an impact arm, and Gavin Floyd isn’t that.
sdsuphilip
Nicolino’s ceiling is a 3, going to take more than just him to get a impact arm.
cyberboo
If Toronto were to trade a package of any of the following, Gose, Nicolino, Sierra, Dyson, Stilson, Jenkins or McGuire, why would they take a Gavin Floyd. That would get them Greinke, Josh Johnson or Hamels and with no bad contracts on the books, they could extend Greinke and Hamels a lot easier than many other teams. The only stipulation, is they have to sign an extension before the trade is finalized.
baumer16
This is pretty funny. While Ryan Dempster would have brought possibly the number one prospect in the Braves organization Greinke doesnt get you a top five prospect in your organization. Laughable.
sdsuphilip
brewers can get more for greinke
Gothapotamus
I don’t think the Sox would get a big enough haul for Floyd to then combine with their current prospects to land Greinke. Kenny’s math seems a little off here.
sdsuphilip
think you mean Rosenthal’s and Morosi’s math

JJ to cards!!! Yes please!!!!!!!

Cards scouts at the Marlins game…how about Shelby Miller, Tyrell Jenkins, and Zack Cox for Josh Johnson? I’m sure they would want more but I think that would be a solid start.
soxfan123123
I’m not a cardinals fan but wouldn’t that be overpay? Shelby Miller is there best prospect and im sure those other guys are solid .
Cheeseballs
It’s not for a starter. We don’t need one. It would be for Hanley or some relief pitcher. And that is quite an over pay for Johnson.
stl_cards16
We don’t need Johnson but we need Hanley? Have you watched the Cardinals this year? Where are they going to play him, 2nd? Hanley is not a fit on the Cardinals.
Cheeseballs
Considering we have the best era in the majors since early June, of course we don’t need him. And 2nd is our worst position, where Hanley would be an upgrade… How does this not make sense?
stl_cards16
I guess if their plan is to play him at 2nd, it could happen. Pitching is still a much bigger need than the offense. I just don’t see it making sense ro take on his bloated contract and send off top prospects for him with Wong pretty much ready. BTW the Cardinals have out scored rge Yankees this year.
Lanidrac
You must be joking. Why would they give up 3 of their best prospects (including their overall top prospect) for Johnson? Miller and Cox are practically untouchable, anyway.
RiosFan
Brewers need a 1B Sox got Dan Jhonson killing it plus you add Molina or Castro plus prospects adquired by a posible Floyd trade and you got yourself a deal.
lefty58
Not in the real world.
Remington
since the compensation picks ruling has totally changed. Rental players like Greinkie will not bring back as much. Greinkie will probably not sign an extension with the brewers. so why would a team trade high prospects for a guy they could just sign in the offseason? makes no sense, thats why they will not have to trade that much to get him
MauerPower
I hate to say this, but Josh is in a career year, and will probably decline from now on. I’d hate to see him go, but if he can get us some good young pitching from a team like Pittsburgh, I’d do it. He’s only getting older, and we have plenty of outfield prospects coming up in the next three years.
John Gregory
Not that the Twins traditionally depend on the free-agent market, but this off-season they probably will try to sign at least one veteran pitcher, and what kind of signal does it send if they trade a player in the first year of a three-year contract? For this reason I think Terry Ryan intends to be extra careful about only accepting a trade that can be justified to outside eyes; and it still may have ramifications down the road such as free-agents insisting on no-trade clauses.
Your point about career year (and a track record of injury) is well taken. On the other hand, aging sluggers sometimes do keep their core skills, better than say a speedy slap hitter. Look at Thome as an example.

Kyle Lohse would like to have a word with whomever said Anibal Sanchez is a better upcoming free agent starter than him.
Neil Van Asch
What on Earth are the Cardinals scouts doing at the Marlins game. We don’t want Heath Bell, so what else do they have? It has to be pitching, but I don’t see it being a starter.
Wyatt McCoy
Thatd be awesome if the cards got Gavin Floyd or Johnson.
