I think the royals should go hard after hellickson
Ethan Hahn
hellickson would never be traded in a million years! He is the Rays best young starter and he is pretty much untouchable.
asovermann
With a FIP of 5.25 he is lucky to have an ERA under 4 this year, the strike outs are dismal and hes walking over 3 per 9 so I wouldnt call him untouchable. Also, when referring to the Rays best young starter, you spelled David Price wrong.
Ryan
Also, you have to remember, he’s represented by Scott Boras, which makes him not as desirable of a player, especially for some teams.

”
That stance meant losing out on Zack Greinke and could take them out of the mix for Josh Johnson or James Shields.”
That makes no sense because the Rangers could have offered more than the Angels without giving up either Profar or Olt.

I doubt anything Rangers would be able to offer other than Profar or Olt would top Segura from the Brewers perspective, the Brewers desperately need infield help and the Rangers don’t have 3 infield prospects better than segura.
Rangers4Life
Apparently offering Martin Perez would have sealed the deal, but the Rangers weren’t willing to give him up either.
Catztradamus
leaving Olt out of a deal for Grienke doesn’t mean they’re not gonna deal him. It could just mean that they have other deals they like better that will require Olt. Philly maybe.

Just curious, why is James Shields nick name big game james when he’s performed worse in the playoffs than the regular season?

Seriously with the price tag the Padres have put on Headley… They can keep him and probably will
Chris Vinnit
Do those same teams that have “spoken with the Pirates” also know they’ve been playing Drew Sutton in the OF when he’s never played a ML game there before or that they called up Neil Walker to play 2B after he played a grand total of three weeks there in the minors? I’m pretty sure if they could get Headley for what they feel is a reasonable price, they could *gasp* teach either him or Alvarez to play 1B next season. I realize we’re a small market team but we do have these things called “coaches” who sometimes teach players to play a position other than the one they’ve played before.
Sorry but that’s about the weakest logic for not making a trade I’ve ever heard. If the Padres want to keep Headley, fine. If their asking price is too high, also fine. But this idea that a team that needs a legit middle-of-the-order bat like the Pirates do would just dismiss a guy out of hand because they’re afraid of moving him to 1B? Child please.

my understanding is Headley has played OF before but not very well. Assuming Jones is not part of the deal using Alverez/Headley at third, Alverez/Jones on first and Headley/Jones in Right. I’m pretty sure they would find an acceptable setup. The bad part is doing it in the middle of the season when you are going for a play off spot.
