“ESPN’s Buster Olney explained that players can improve their trade value by performing well in the days and weeks leading up to the trade deadline.”
Seriously? Does anyone actually pay for Insider? What a crock…

Couldn’t agree more.

Or you could see what he actually said in the article, not Ben’s slant:
“But before the trade deadline every year, teams will still send scouts to watch pitchers like Maholm because they’re looking for a hot hand. A hitter in the midst of an offensive burst. A pitcher who has made an adjustment that’s fueling a hot streak, or has started throwing a pitch that’s working for him.
Like an NFL team looking for a kicker who is on a roll, MLB teams seek a quick fix, and one great start — or a very short series of strong outings — can make a difference to clubs this time of year.”

Hellboy to Detroit.
Rob Brantly
Jacob Turner/Bruce Rondon

Hellboy, I hope that’s a combination of Garza and Barney because you’re not getting those three for anyone on the Cub’s not named Castro. I wouldn’t give up Turner for Dempster if that’;s who you are referring to, much less MORE players.
EightMileCats
I think he’s referring to Jeremy Hellickson
williswinning
I’d do Brantly and Rondon for Hellickson.
EightMileCats
It’s prob take more than that. He’s 25 yo with a sub 4 era… Pitching in the AL east. Not a free agent til 2017.
I’d give em Turner, Brantly, and Rondon/Fields
williswinning
Wow, I didn’t believe you but Cot’s verifies that. Yeah, with that much team control I’d do that too. Good call.

Get on it Dave

I do not trade Rondon under any circumstances. Rondon is going to be the next big shut down closer and could potentially replace Valverde and his $9mm contract in 2013 for the MLB minium. Furthermore, I only trade Costellanos if it was part of a package for Stanton of the Marlins. The rest of our prospects —– go for it.
williswinning
Yeah, Rondon is going to be good. But with Al-B-Q, Marte, and Villarreal he may be expendable.

I like these nameless “executives” that seem to react with snap judgments not unlike most MLB fans… no foresight, or looking at the bigger picture. That’s what’s really scary… unless they’re the VP of Concessions and Refreshments, perhaps.

How is that news? I’m pretty sure Rizzo has said he isn’t trading top prospects, and Mark Lerner’s said they aren’t going to trade for a rental

If the Phillies did resign Hamels then would that mean they would become buyers, and if so would they try for Chase Headly for third base help
elscorchot
marlins could oversell on anibal and nolasco. i’d start there. insert talent that will help win for years to come. it obviously hasn’t worked here with those guys at the helm.
