I definitely agree that the Sox should give Ortiz a multi-year deal, especially given they won’t be incredibly competitive anyway. The man deserves it.

With Pedroia and Ells always hurt, he’d be about the only consistent and above average bats on the team. They really don’t have much offense at this point. But if they are truly trying to rebuild, then they might cut him loose and pick up a draft pick if he declines what they offer him.

That’s a good point.

Pedroia always hurt? Amazing.. he broke his foot and missed half of a season granted. He also injured his thumb 2x over a 1 month period this summer, yet only missed 2 weeks.. His other 4 seasons, including rookie campaign when was benched often before starting to hit?? Averaged 150G per year.. Sounds like someone pretty healthy to me…

Ortiz only played 90 games because he injured his heel trotting slowly around 2nd base. One has to conclude that his body, at the joints, is beginning to deteriorate. He will be 37 next month so the likelihood is he will never be able to complete a full season as the Red Sox DH without spending considerable time on the DL. If his 2012 injury is any indicator he could seriously injure himself just walking up to the plate. Proceed at the team’s risk if he is signed again for 2013 and/or beyond.

Anyone think Ortiz might be using PEDs? He got an injury, chooses not to come back, and he’s resurrected his career. Trust me, I like Ortiz a lot, but I think he could be doing doing PEDs because he can now hit when formally he wasn’t that great back in 07 to 09. I’m not confirming it, I’m just making a guess.
