What if McGwire and Giambi miss out on the hall of fame as players, but make it as managers?

I’d personally be okay with that, so long as their HOF credentials are based on their managerial accomplishments, not what they did as a player, and as long as the HOF makes a clear distinction between individuals in the HOF because of their player credentials vs. their managerial credentials.

These days, with all of the video, data, and scouting reports to review every day, and with all of the added commitments to media, the amount of time in a day that it takes to be a manager is considerably higher than it was in the days of player-managers. I would imagine the hesitation teams have toward the idea comes from that.
