Jim Tracy was 2009 NL Manager of the Year… lol
Yondu Udonta
Why is that so funny, he beat out Tony La Russa and Joe Torre that year

I have a question. I always hear how “……” did extremely well in an interview with team “….”. does anyone know exactly what that means? what they talk about or the procedure for an interview?
Yondu Udonta
Yea it’s no different than you going for a job interview and saying saying the interview went well and the departing words are “We do have others to interview and will let you know”.
Translation: Thanks for your time but you’re not what we are looking for.
rikersbeard
except here they say it about the people that get the job as well.

I get the impression that it is what an organization tells (or leaks to) the press when they want to leave their options open. The guy could be their first choice or they could just be stringing him along or interviewing out of some sense of obligation. Regardless of what they end up doing, they are covered (unless someone leaks that the interview actually went badly).

And we have a bench coach, great! More quick moves that are also effective. Curious to see who his pitching coach is going to be.

Tracy? Acta? what, no Ozzie yet!?

New way to find a manager: “Quick, what retired veterans with ties to our team are available?” I’m surprised Charles Johnson isn’t on the Marlins wish list.

It’s odd that the Cubs’ new “hitting” coach hit .204 during his minor-league career and never made it out of class-A.
I shouldn’t be too harsh; I suppose he could make a good “hitting” coach by simply dispensing the following advice:
“Guys, everything I did? Don’t do any of that.”

understanding of the game and certain aspects like hitting, are one thing. the physical ability to carry out the understanding is another.
dave duncan wasn’t even a pitcher and mostly regarded as one of the best pitching coaches.

I wonder about Acta. You always hear he is a great guy but he really loses everywhere he has gone. Loses pretty bad too.

One person that I’m surprised isn’t being bantered around for a future managing position is Joe McEwing, who is currently the manager of the Charlotte Knights (AAA – White Sox). They finished with an 83-61 record last season and made the International League playoffs. He has been mentioned as a future major-league manager for some time.

Joe McEwing didn’t manage Charlotte this year. He was the third base coach of the White Sox, under Ventura. So he’ll probably get some more banter when jobs come available during and after 2013.
