Pagan won’t get a Rowand-like contract because they learned their lesson from post-championship contracts from Aubrey Huff

Got to go with Tim on Pagan. No qualifying offer but doubts they will be able to resign him due to muliple year contracts that will be offered. Might as well grab the pick. You have to think a flush SF organization could handle a $13 million Pagan if for some reason he accepted.

I definitely think it would have been smart to extend a qualifying offer – I don’t see any likely scenario in which Pagan chooses 13.3 million over a guaranteed multi-year contract. Maybe Sabean thinks his AAV offers will be a lot lower than 13.3 million, but low enough to decline 3/4 years for 1? I don’t know about that.

Any thoughts on what Pagan might fetch on the open market? I could see 4 years and a vesting option being a reasonable goal for his agent. I think he’ll end up with a team other than The Giants, but Affeldt and Scutaro will probably stay.

Given the state of their pen and with what Affeldt did to them in the series, you’d have to think Detroit would be willing to pony up serious cash to get him.
For Pagan, its being rumored that he’s going to get something in the 4yr/$50M ballpark.

And if that is in fact the area Pagan is seeking I’d hope the Giants would pass.

Scutaro and Affeldt’s contracts look within reason. We see what offers that Pagan gets. Pagan relies on his legs. I wouldn’t go too high on Pagan.

I do agree with you regarding I’d hope the Giants don’t go too high on him. 10M might be the highest I’d hope they’d offer and that’d be for 3 years. But for Affeldt it seems he’s looking for something around what Brandon League got 21/3. 7M seems awfully high for a reliever, but I would hate to see Affeldt go.

I could see the Giants going 2 years 11M with Affeldt. Scutaro 2 years 14M with team option and 1 or 2M buyouts for third years. I would make Pagan a qualifying offer and offer 3 years 33M and option a 4th year. The Giants do have about 30 million to spend. Depending on arbitration raises.
Andrew Rodig
I don’t see Pagan being worth 3 years 33M. He had a career year and it will be hard for him to replicate his production of last year. Other two deals I have no problem with.

With Hamilton, Bourn, and Upton all getting qualifying offers of 13.3M Pagan will get 10-13M per for 3 or 4 years. Pagan’s numbers this year are very close to his career averages. His skills fit the park and team needs. The Giants have the money and they like the player. The Giants will sign an outfielder. Which player do you see them giving up a draft pick and money to sign?
