trust me, if they are offered a mid-rotation starter, they should take it. Murphy will never be worth more than he is now. And given that he’s not the solution at 2B for the Mets, it’s goodbye Murph.

I completely agree Murphy is worth a lot right now, but with the surplus of pitching I wouldn’t want to get another pitcher. I’d like a SS, 1B or OF in return. Something that could fill our holes. The rotation doesn’t have holes since we have so much young pitching that could fill it. Yes, I’d like to add a veteran starter with a one-year cheap contract, but wouldn’t trade away someone that could help the team for something we already have. I’d be fine with trading Murphy and putting Flores at 2B with the occasional EYJR, but only if we fill one of our holes.

No thanks. I’ll keep the young pitching, thanks.
Speaking of which, report came out a little bit ago saying the Mets asked the Brewers for their young pitching (guys like Thornburg), and the Brewers said no, and the Mets told them they’re out of the running for Davis. So. That ends that, I suppose.

Change AVG to OPS and we’re getting somewhere. The Mets are going to be approaching some strikeout records, I agree. Just AVG is basically a useless stat.

I wouldn’t call it totally useless. Most of the times I would reference OBP but the fact is that this team has a lot of guys who might put up a decent OBP because of walk rates but don’t find holes on balls in play. Unless a team plans on walking 4 guys in an inning, I think you need to look for guys with a high average so that Granderson/Young can take two bases on a hit, or score from second on a single.
You also need a high contact rate so that outs can at least be productive in some occassions
