“Let me emphasize one thing: We’re not in the business of giving players away,” Alderson said. “We don’t expect to get in that business.”
Word!
godzillacub
He continued: “But we are in the business of paying people past 40 years old many millions of dollars. And, if you ask Colon or Bonilla, business is good.”
Too soon?

No DD! Not Santana… too much money for too little consistency. Tho I do assume if they made this type of signing, Max would be on his way out… but still. NO DD
edit, thanks for the info below. Apparently mentionion any form of social media blocks the post til reviewed

Actually the teewt is still there… the link is broken however…
Bill Smith
Bah, Ok, I stand corrected…I’m not a tweettery tweeeterer, so I didn’t check there haha.
EightMileCats
Me either, by Bless You Boys has an article up on it currently and their link works

Cool, I’ll have to bookmark their page and visit it more often. I’ve been on there in the past, but not recently. Thanks!

No they wouldn’t trade Max? This season is getting silly for the Tigs.

We lost in the playoffs 3 years in a row, we have to make changes.
EightMileCats
I think we’ve made some drastic changes. We’ve gone from a team that depends on power (Cabrera, Fielder, Peralta, and to a lesser extent Infante) to a more manufacture runs style team (Kinsler, Davis, Jackson, Hunter, Dirks, Iggy). Not too many base cloggers anymore outside of Cabrera and Vmart… even Avilia has semi-decent speed for a catcher.
weaselpuppy
please no to Santana….why do that when you had Fister at half his price….Santana is a heartbreaker….one goo dyear and a bunch of underwhelming 35 HR years…urgh
EightMileCats
Oh, believe me. I’m with you here
barry2
Max was not the problem though. He is a shutdown pitcher. We need him. Wait to next year to sign another pitcher.
Jake13
This core will go down as one of the best to never win it all but our window has passed
EightMileCats
I think that is a false. I believe we still have 1… maybe 2 more years.
barry2
Trading Max now you will have a hard time getting value back. Look at the Fister trade. Max is still worth keeping even for one more year unless DD is blown away with an offer.

The tweet has already been deleted, I wouldn’t worry.

Apparently the word used for sending out a message via a social media site represented by a bird flags your post for review by a mod.. odd
Anyway, as Bill Smith was able to point out in a flagged reply, the message has been deleted. I feel better now

Ike Davis for Tim Beckham?? Anyone see a fit?
Beckham and Davis are both washs up 2008 first round draft picks!
Mets get a shortstop and rays gets someone to replace loney!
Win win both sides!
Maybe the rays add one more prospect because Beckham didn’t prove anything yet!

Any chicago fans think the whitesox would take lance lynn for beckham?
brian310
Possibly but I don’t see why the Cards would do it. I can see them being interested in Keppinger though as most of the Cards starting infield is left-handed (Adams, Wong, Carpenter) and Kep has experience at those positions. Kozma can stick on the roster as a late inning replacement for Peralta. Kep also gives them a veteran on the bench. Don’t know if they could get Lynn for him though.
Jake13
Keppinger would be traded for basically any average prospect offered, he is an alright player but on his contract has no real value
brian310
True. I think he will bounce back though and hit more towards .280 as the Sox platoon 3B or with another team.
sourbob
Yeah, I do. Beckham is a talented guy, but much like with Ike Davis in NY, management does believe he can turn it around, but will probably need a change of scenery to do so.
OTOH, I think the Cardinals could do better.
rhubarbsss
In a heartbeat. That would be a really dumb trade for the Cardinals to make.
bighiggy
why is that? Lynn has talent but on a team with an over abundance of pitching where he’s really not needed and beckham has shown some promise. point is irrelevant after signing ellis

Where is the Benoit link?

Olney: Astros are tanking! They should be ashamed! Disgrace to baseball!
Astros: Okay, will give Scott Feldman $10 million a year. Considering the market, that’s fair.
Twins: Yeah, we just gave Nolasco way more than that, after all.
Olney: ASTROS ARE RUINING THE WHOLE OFF SEASON!!!!!!

Wait, why trade away Fister if you’re going to get Santana? Wasn’t the point of that deal to cut payroll? It’s not like they got a good return for Fister. If they sign Santana they have to give away a draft pick as well.
