I really like Bailey. He pitches in a hitter friendly park and still manages to pitch very, very well. He doesn’t give up a lot of HR’s and his K/BB ratio has improved every year. With a 2014 season that’s anything close to his 2013 season and being just 28 at the very start of the 2015 season he’s looking at a huge payday come FA.

I’ve liked him for the Bronx, but if he’s wanting anything near 6/$125MM, no thanks. That’s ridiculous.
David 30
I’d much, much MUCH rather give 6/125 to Bailey than 7/150 to Tanaka.
rundmc1981
Yeesh. I don’t like either one, but I guess time will tell.

CC, Scherzer, Baily, Tanaka, Nova…
MB923
I’d be surprised if Scherzer doesn’t get an extension from the Tigers

Me too!
UltimateYankeeFan
I agree, although keep in mind the Tigers did entertain the idea of trading him this winter. So he could be a candidate to be moved at the trade deadline for a nice package from another team.

and Banuelos next year

I’d like to see the Yanks get either Scherzer or Bailey next year to replace Kuroda. I think either Baneulos or Pineda will be in the 5th spot next year. I think the Yanks will either get Ramirez, Headley, and Lowrie next year.

Reds can’t afford Bailey. Let’s focus on locking up Latos. But what Baseball really needs is a salary cap!
PaperLions
Baseball is awash in cash. Every owner makes more money than the highest paid player, and the players are the talent responsible for generating 100% of baseball-related income. Why would you want a system that ensures that owners keep more of the revenue?
Every team could spend more money and still make a huge profit every year.

The trouble is the local TV contracts vary so much. There is no way the Royals are going to get the same amount of money for their local TV contract as the Yankees or Dodgers do.
monroe_says
Yet 34% of local TV revenues are split among all the teams, so that does help somewhat.
FrankDrebinLives
Even with Revenue Sharing—Angels make $119.61, Reds make $44.93.
monroe_says
Well, I guess we can be thankful that the Angels seem to have no idea how to effectively spend all of that money.
Wee McGee
I don’t care about the owners. I care about a level playing ground, just like in the other sports.
johnsilver
Who takes all the risk if the item is profitable or not, or if fans show up or not? The player, or the Owners?
That is why owners keep more of the revenue, or should at least be able to keep a third of the portion for themselves to keep said business solvent and some groups of people refuse to understand that.
Lilstackhustla
What kind of money would Bailey likely get in free agency?
Wee McGee
I’m hearing 6 years, 125 million.
Jared306
With the qualifying offer system and Santana and Jimenez looking at 3 year deals, I don’t know if Bailey will get $125 million with the draft pick compensation attached.
CitizenSnips
$20MM+/yr for a #3 starter at best? C’mon son.
Wee McGee
That’s why I think the Reds should trade him NOW. That is indeed crazy boy.
monroe_says
Sadly, the train to extend Bailey has left the station. The last chance to do so was probably before last season. It’s a shame as he’s finally developed into who everyone thought he’d become.

Homer is worth the cash. Once he develops even more command this guy is going to HOF good. If he pitched in San Diego he already would have been a 25 game winner.

I know we hear it all the time about how a player being from a certain area so fans think he would want to return home and it turns out they follow the money and go to another team. However, I get the feeling Bailey wants to go back south and I can see the Rangers making a push for him next offseason if he performs well this year. They lost out on Grienke, were interested in Tanaka before Choo ate up a lot of the payroll they had available. I could see him taking less dollar wise if Texas comes calling just like Choo did because he could make it back up since there is no state tax.
JS Bragg
I think Houston.
Dbacksfan44
Id give Bailey 6/100 but wouldn’t go up to 6/125
