With two rounds in the postseason before the World Series (plus a wild-card game for those two teams), any playoff team is still an underdog to get to the World Series. Winning two series is not easy, even for the ’27 Yankees.

The Cardinals could lose two of their starting outfielders tomorrow and hardly skip a beat, with Piscotty and Grichuk hungry to make their moves. Kolten Wong has started to play like Kolten Wong. If one of the five starters lapses, Martinez is ready to step in. The only guy they can’t afford to lose, no matter what, is Yadi. Heck, has anybody taken a good look at Xavier Scruggs’ phenomenal numbers OTHER than K’s and a medium batting average? He is Jimmy Wynn all over again. Looking good, this team …
