I am really impressed that he could make the roster till season late
DarthMurph
0.5 WAR is actually pretty good considering Figgins’ past couple years. He’s 36 so we can’t rule out a multiyear deal from the Phillies.

Wait, Chone Figgins was still playing?
Greg Sheldon
Giants need a 2nd baseman not named Ugla
GrilledCheese39
They’re never had a second baseman named Ugla.
WashingtonRancors
No he just never got a hit for them. Did manage to strikeout several times as a giant though.
Greg Sheldon
Wrong
BlueSkyLA
I’m not sure I get why Figgins was subject to a DFA, since he was signed on a Minor League contract.
Steve Adams
He signed a minor league deal but they selected his contract to the Major League roster. His contract was on the 40-man roster (15-day DL), making a DFA necessary in order to remove it.
BlueSkyLA
Yes, thanks, that is right. He’d been in the minors for almost a month on an extended rehab assignment. The Dodgers just ran out of rope on that one so he was designated. I see that has been added to the post now.

In a corresponding move…………
Robert Montenegro
No corresponding move. This wasn’t a DFA to make room for someone else. It was a choice between this or reinstating him to the 25-man as his rehab clock had timed out.

Guy left the angels and was never the same.
Huff's dog
Come on Giants–sign him to a 5 year 35 million dollar deal! He may still have some juice left in that bat!
mattbennett_22
.373 OBP, 0.5 WAR..not bad. I would have sent Rojas down, considering he has options and could use more AAA time. Rojas could be recalled in September anyway. not sure why the Dodgers didn’t want to control both of them.
Cabro Epico
I didn’t even know Howard Stern’s beetlejuice was still playing

The next Ranger first baseman….
mrshyguy99
well it was worth the try with him didnt work out no big deal.
mrshyguy99
on a side note dodgers only trade pick up so far Darwin Barney is struggling with the glove he doing bad at 3rd and he doing bad at SS only spot he good at is 2nd. so i dont think he would be a guy we can use at different spots as of right now
BlueSkyLA
Barney has played a fair amount of SS over the years and done so at least adequately, and a little 3B. He has to be rusty at both positions, since it’s been a couple of years since he played anywhere but 2B. If/when the Dodgers bring him up it will probably be for middle infield depth anyway, Between Uribe and Turner, 3B is covered.

A washed up veteran with a poor slash line… Figgins’ is right in Sabean’s wheelhouse. Could he be 2nd baseman number 9 for the Giants this year?
Neil Fujiwara
For some reason, I could see him being the Dave Roberts (Red Sox) for the Angels. Maybe wishful thinking…
