Well isn’t this magical…

I’m fine with Sandy returning, he’s really made some good moves other than really the Granderson deal as well as Chris Young deal this year, but I’m on the fence with TC. Yes, he hasn’t been given the best team to work with, but I think he lacks the “it” factor you see out of other managers. Same with the coaches. A fresh start would really be best for the team on that level I believe, and with that a new hitting philosophy.
boraswannabe
That’s a shame.

Ahh here we go again. I don’t understand why we have to keep TC. He’s done the best he can, however, he’s made a lot of decisions that put the Mets in a bad situation. If it were up to me, I wouldn’t bring him back.

Without being too critical of either Collins (eh) and Alderson (fairly decent job), this, along with the flat payroll, does seem to deliver the message that when the young players develop and start winning, then the team will put a better product on the field, and that ownership just isn’t going to commit to any more resources or any change.

there is no reason to think the wilpons will raise payroll. there is however, plenty of evidence that they are broke and inundated with SNY debt.
Gumby65
Well, there’s always next next year.

I’m Ok with Alderson coming back because it’s not his fault. You can only do what your boss lets you do. The Wilpons tell him he can’t spend money so guess what… He can’t spend money. He then takes the heat off “the bosses” by being a good soldier and taking the bullet by saying he doesn’t want to spend money on free agents. Then there’s Collins and of course Alderson wants to keep him because he’s CHEAP and a “YES MAN”. Anything Alderson and the Wilpons want Collins runs and does. And rumors are their payroll is going to be 80-85 mil in 2015. I mean the free agents aren’t impressive this off season, but if they don’t make any trades it looks like Mets fans like myself will be saying “maybe next year”! AGAIN! SMDH!! I know one thing if you don’t improve this team (A Lot) the fans will not come or watch! Hope you enjoy losing more money.

If four straight losing seasons doesn’t convince you that something needs to change at the managerial spot, I don’t know what will. I’ve never seen Willie or Davey get this much rope from ownership.
paqza
You’ve gotta consider the team and payroll he’s had to work with. Willie’s team was more $$$.

After they trade Murphy for…essentially nothing, this team will be on pace to win another 73-77 games next year. Not horrid, but not expensive, either. Just where the Wilpons want it.
paqza
If they were going to trade Murphy for nothing, they would have done it already, logically. They haven’t traded him because nobody has met the asking price. That doesn’t have to be a bad thing – he’s a useful player.
Chris 58
I agree on his usefulness. But if they can reduce payroll, they’ll do it. Murphy is the best way to do that. And then they’ll “try really, really hard” to get a good player on the market, but it won’t work out. I would love to be wrong, but that’s the Wilpons’ track record, post-Madoff.

And the Mets “are certain” to be at the bottom of the standings again in 2015…

I’m guessing the Mets marketing team has already come up with the 2015 slogan–“The New York Mets, Because Mediocre Means Better Than Some!!!”
josebatista89
Same old Mets the Wilpons won’t spend money. Heck why not give Terry Collins a 5 year re up.
josebatista89
It’s sad that the Royals, and Diamondbacks have made more signings and trades then the Mets have.
SinHalo27
TC is the worst manager in MLB. Anyone could make better line-ups picking names out of a hat and he is a bullpen destroyer.
