I wouldn’t mind us bringing him back at 2/$16 mil. Maybe go to 2/$18 mil.

Fully agree on term and dollars.

The primary value a guy like Volquez would bring to the Pirates is his dependability – which is not to be overlooked when the rotation will feature, at one time or another, Gerrit Cole (missed time w/ shoulder), Locke (back to back 2nd half fades), Worley (3 years since his last ERA qualifying season), Morton (returning from surgery, never a good bet to pitch 180 innings), Taillon (recovering from TJS) and Kingham (rookie).
But from a performance standpoint, I think it’s very unlikely we see anything close to the 3-ERA he put up this year. He’s probably closer to 4, even with a better infield defense and the benefits that accompany working with Searage and Benedict.
For my money, I would rather get one year of a higher-upside guy like Masterson, or re-sign Liriano, than re-up on multiple years with Volquez, who by 2016 may be the 6th best SP on the staff.

I think that the talk about his K/9 number dropping and negating his Walk per 9 is wrong. A walk gives a guy a free pass, but guys can get out in other ways than a SO.

2/20 or 3/25

“His xFIP of 4.20 shows that his ERA was probably higher than it should have been” guessing Zach meant lower than it should have been

That 4.20 can go a long way apparently…. He must’ve received a contact high upon typing.

I think the Angels need to be in the market for Volquez after Wilson’s complete and utter capitulation/ meltdown, and with Richards being injured we’re in need
