White Sox?
Kevin Chambers
Good possibility, though his increase in keeping the ball up doesn’t help with their park.

Home run induced disaster?

After further thought, you are right. Frank and Paulies statues would have bullseyes on them. I would prefer Soria but Detroit will be picking up his option or so it seems. The close will come from within the organization or be a young pitcher no one outside of the f.o. figures to acquire. Petricka did a decent job.

Hope the Pirates will go for him. Put him at closer, put Melancon and Watson back in the 8th and 7th roles where they were dominant.

I can’t see the Pirates dropping 6mil a year on a very old closer.
GrilledCheese39
I don’t think anyone ever saw the Rays doing that last year either

6 milion for your highest paid reliever isnt much if you plan on contending. Unless you have a flamethrower you may not want to rely on an experienced rookie in the playoffs to close out games (especially close games) if they can even last the whole year in the role.

If the Padres do deal Benoit, which is being thrown around, Soriano would be a nice/cheaper version to plug in at the back of the bullpen.

Give a lot of credit to Soriano’s agent. 631 IP for $61+ Million. He’s still got something left in his tank, but I don’t think he’s worth a large, multiyear deal. Jeff probably pegged the range correctly. The increased velocity on his slider is interesting. Maybe he feels he has to throw harder to get the same level of break he used to?

Thats almost (give or take) $100,000 per inning for his career, as a reliever.
I do hope he gets his agent more than just a card at Christmas.
Drazthegr8
He completely ran out of gas in the second half and was terrible. The Nats OF saved a bunch more runs. I can’t understand why anyone would give him more than 1 year to see if he can get refreshed over the winter. Otherwise, fairly good chance a team is eating Year 2.

future tigers 8th inning reliever.
bobbleheadguru
Nope. They will put all their eggs in the Miller basket.

I don’t really think that having a seperation in speed between a slider and fastball is real important. It’s definitely important with a fastball and changeup but the tilt on a slider changes things. I suppose if a pitcher’s cutter and slider move similarly than that would be more problematic. Still 7-8mph can work. Just depends on how you use it. For instance wouldn’t fastball, cutter, slider be like “climbing the ladder” horizontally.

What’s up with this guy?Noone’s “biting”.why?Something we don’t know? You’d thing the Blue Jays could use him as a “co-closer”with lefty Cecil, especially if Sanchez goes into the rotation.Makes no sense..its past mid -March…he should be affortable,at this point,he can’t get the big deal at this point.Even if vhe signs for a year, has a good year, maybe next year. But,he can’t start getting to ‘picky”at this point.
