In case anyone is curious, Mets have Monell which would be the next catcher in line, so Rohfling is pretty far down the depth chart. But depth is depth.

I was. Wonder where he would be on the roster. Thanks

d’Arnaud on DL, Plawecki starter, Recker backup, Monell AAA starter, Rohfling AAA backup? I assume that’s the order.
Monell would have gotten called up to replace d’Arnaud if Plawecki weren’t so good. As it stands, both Plawecki and d’Arnaud look to be above average MLB catchers (and I don’t mean in the future, I mean right now), so guys like Monell, who are AAA/AAAA catchers, find it hard to get playing time. Recker may also be worried when d’Arnaud comes off the DL, Plawecki may stay in the majors. If Cuddyer or Duda get hurt, you may see Plawecki play 1st or LF to keep both of their bats in the lineup. It will be very interesting what happens if Plawecki plays as expected when d’Arnaud comes off the DL. It will be nice to give d’Arnaud as much time as necessary to recover from his hand injury as well, since there will very likely be no need to rush him.

Monell looked a lot better than Plawecki in spring training. The thinking seems to be that the latter has more potential than the former.

Plawecki looked great in spring, too, though, and is younger and more capable behind the dish.

Monell looked better than Recker as well. To be honest, Monell looked really good this spring.

Not a bad deal, considering all they gave up was money. Not even a low end prospect.

The Mets have the depth to stay in contention until fully healed.
