Nats trying to save dollars – Blevins deal. It has come back to haunt them. Everyone knew then that Blevins was the better pitcher, but the Nats needed to save 2 million. Sometime you wonder about front offices. Bullpens matter in the playoffs. Trying to save money on Blevins is penny wise, pound foolish.

Blevins turned into an inconsistent LOOGY (not what the Nats thought they were getting) in his walk year with no options, a hefty salary and who was having a miserable spring. Traded him for den Dekker, a lefty outfielder with MLB experience and two options and got the Mets to pay all of what was owed to Blevins. If they wanted to save dollars, they would have just released him.

Uh… they could have saved money by releasing him and owing him his entire contract?

I bet the Nats wish they could have a do over when they sent Fernando Abad to Oakland for cash after acquiring Blevins.
