I think that wouldn’t be a good move on the O’s part if they just simply DFA Cabrera.
I happen to like him much more so than Flaherty
Truth be told, I wish we still had Andino!
VAR
It looks like a good time to call up Castillo. Maybe send JBJ back to AAA or one of the lefty relievers. With Betts not hitting well, Castillo could split time between center and right with Betts and Victorino. Do that for a few weeks and then give the lions share of the starts to the players that perform the best over that time.
willi
And if none perform well ? What then !
Draven Moss
Why do you have to worry about that now? Chances are, that won’t happen.
willi
Because I want them to save their Season, by being Bold !
VAR
I’d just be happy if they took the series against the Rangers. Settle down, the season isn’t in jeopardy yet.
VAR
Mass executions clearly. Can you only start one outfielder? Perform the best, never said anything about well.
MB923
Craig just got outrighted and is no longer on the 40 man (after your post of course), so looks like Castillo will be called up I guess?
Edit – I forgot Castillo was already on the 40 man
VAR
That was last week, so nope. Castillo was just coming back from injury at the time so they brought up JBJ with the intent to platoon him with Vic. But Castillo looks to have found his swing fairly quickly in AAA so there’s no real reason to keep him down there. Probably be up within the week.
Draven Moss
Hopefully on Tuesday.
VAR
Is there some significance to Tuesday, or do you just want him here soon? It has to be by Thursday, because the Rangers are throwing another soft tossing LHP, Red Sox kryptonite.
Draven Moss
Yeah, I just wanna see him soon, haha. If they are convinced on starting Victorino against lefties, where would we play Castillo? Seems like he’d be getting most time against righties, as unconventional as it may sound.
VAR
I’d do a three man rotation of Betts, Victorino and Castillo in center and right. I think JBJ would go back to AAA and eventually one man would be mostly phased out of the rotation.
Karkat
I’d like Castillo up by Wednesday, since I’ll be at that game, please 🙂
VAR
I’d make the call, but Farrell has stopped returning my phone calls. Have the Rangers actually announced their pitcher for Weds yet? Or are they just trying to acquire a left handed starter in the meantime? Incidentally I wouldn’t be opposed to Ranaudo for old times sake. Or the sake of that straight meatball he calls a fastball.
MB923
Did they have 41 men and take Craig out or was Craig the 40th and are they down to 39? (Post about Craig hasn’t been updated yet so I’m not sure)
VAR
Now they’re down to 39 I expect. I wonder if that was to get another pitcher on the 40 man? Sorry, I misunderstood what you posted earlier.
Sky14
It has been updated since, they said the 40 man is at 37 after Craig was removed.
MB923
Thanks Sky

I understand that many are or were high on Betts hitting skill but I
thought it was a little rushy to have him be the leadoff hitter from the
start, seems like might be putting more ressure on him then if he hit
lower in the lineup. Seems almost no matter how highly regarded a hitter
a player is they usually hit lower in the. Swilhart on the other hand
has batted last almost every game I’ve noticed and his bat is also
highly regarded.
Draven Moss
I think the whole reason he was given the lead off spot was because he did the job extremely well last year and quite frankly, they don’t have anyone else that makes sense in that spot. Castillo could seem like an option there now, but I think his free swinging tendencies might making him more suitable lower in the lineup. Having said that, Betts has had low swinging strike % since being up in the Show and I think that is costing him. His BABIP is really low right now, but if he starts being more aggressive, he should be able to get it up to more reasonable levels. As for Swihart, I feel as though the front office doesn’t think he is ready yet hence why he is batting ninth most the time. They did that to Betts a lot at first last year too.
David Coonce
I don’t think the Sox really wanted Swihart in the majors this soon, period, but injuries to both their catchers forced their hand.
Brandon Marin
Rays front office is brilliant. They are going to save millions having co closers through arbitration. 5 years and I can see more teams following that model .
Sky14
Teams have done closer by committee in the past, it is nothing new.
willi
Red Sox need to FIRE they’re Hitting Coach Immediately !

That’s just cold, man. If not Chili of you.

“Tanaka made two starts at the end of the 2014 season after coming back from the injury and pitched well in four starts prior to his injury in 2015.”
Did you happen to watch any of those starts? He had two good ones. The first two were terrible.
