Find it hard to believe that in 2003 the Red Sox would have already made a decision on A-Rod’s opt out. I’m sure a nearly 10 WAR season in 2007 would have made them re-consider.
Happy the deal didn’t go down because of Lester’s involvement.
As for Swihart I think he can probably hit better then Hanigan/Leon already so it really depends on how advanced his game calling and defense is. I think he will be fine.

I know it’s early and I usually don’t look at stats until about 50 games in but…man, Howard is seriously batting 177/235/380, with 24 Ks in 79 at-bats? Dang. I know a lot of Phils fans thought his issues were because of his off-field stuff last year, but he looks absolutely done at this point. Watched one game of his this season and it looks like he was swinging underwater.

Ryne is not a good manager. That is all.
Solomon Crowe
How can he be a good manager with bunch of hasbeens and no young talent?

He’s absolutely atrocious at managing the bullpen. Jake Diekman has thrown over 50 pitches in one game. One game. I was happy to see him hired, but I’ve already seen enough from his bullpen management to his stressing small ball (bunts). I wouldn’t be shocked if he’s fired before Amaro.
