Signing premium, albeit unproven, international talent is still far less of an investment than proven MLB players. It’s a gamble, sure, but smaller market teams need to be willing to take the risk.

with teams like the Yankees who can’t go over 300k the next couple signing periods… what would keep them from signing one of the “elite” foreign players to 300k bonus and a one year deal; then work out an extension for real dollars at a later date?
