So that means Lagares will have Tommy John next week? Seems to be how the Mets run their organization.

It’s been sort of clear that Lagares has been injured for a little while, but I didn’t realize it was that bad. Hopefully he doesn’t overexert himself the rest of the season and can get healthy in the offseason. TJ surgery would be awful.

So you have a guy who can apparently be badly injured if he makes “an awkward throw,” and you’re PLAYING him? Is this wisdom?

Well, right now they are in a play-off race. Lagares makes the team better and him playing gives them the best opportunity to win. Worse case scenario, he has to get Tommy John Surgery when it makes sense to do so. I’m sure Lagares and the Mets don’t want to potentionally throw away the season because of an injury that is possible to play through.

He injured it in September but it isn’t as big a deal as for a pitcher. Many notable position players have played for years with partial tears. Like another commenter said, the team is much better off with him even if he can’t throw right now since we don’t have another CF close.

what should the Mets do? shut down their starting center fielder during a playoff race? if they fall hopelessly out of it come july or august, he’ll get the TJ. Which for position players is not as big a deal honestly. So he saves his arm, and tries his best to play through it, and you hold your breath. He wouldn’t be the first guy to play through this type of injury.

A healthy kris medlen could truly make this royals team a scary team.
