The White Sox were foolish to hold onto Samardzija.. They could have gotten a couple of very good prospects similar to what Oakland nabbed for Kazmir.. Cashman reportedly has wanted Samardzija since last year.. I am sure he would have parted with Sanchez and another lesser prospect or two for him.. Now they will only get a comp pick for him..

Hard to say whether trading the Shark would make sense.
The Tigers just came off 4 in a row AL Central’s. Fans can be a little more patient with a “reboot” than WS Fans.
I wonder what the proposed 3 way deal between the White Sox, Tigers and Mets would have been.

I totally disagree. I don’t think the prospects that he would have brought back in return would’ve been marginal at best. Better to hold on to Shark, ride the season out … then make an effort to re-sign him and take the comp pick if they don’t.

The Porcello trade looks better and better for the Tigers. Not only did they get 4 great months out of Cespedes, they got two other good pieces from the Sox for him. Now they flip him for a couple of more pitchers and they can resign him in the off-season.

I’m not sure Céspedes will want to return to a dismantled Tigers’ team in decrepit Detroit after playing in Queens for a young contender in the biggest baseball market. The Mets probably won’t resign him but I think Céspedes will shop around now that he’s gotten a taste of the City.
