What would it take for the Pirates to add any of the three relievers mentioned (box, mcgee, Jepsen)?
ashley
For Boxburger, it probably starts with Glasnow, for McGee, Taillon or Meadows, and for Jepsen, I imagine the conversation starts with either Bell, McGuire or Kingham.

You think the Rays can get some of the Pirates top prospects for relievers? I hope you are right as I wouldn’t mind that but I wish the Rays would get (and then develop) some hitters.
batman
If that’s what it takes then no way the Pirates do that

I would agree Batman

Bell for Jepsen?? That is perhaps the craziest speculation I have heard so far this season.. No offense, but wow, that’s bad..

Boxberger or McGee will take top prospects, plus other good prospects. Jepsen probably will be more like a couple of good prospects in the 8-20 range of the system.

no way are the pirates trading for boxberger mcgee etc.. if it takes glasnow or bell

I can understand not wanting to pay that price, but that’s what a top notch, young and controllable closer will cost. It obviously won’t take both but I’m guessing either McGee or Boxberger will take a top 50 prospect as a headliner and then some other good pieces to round out the deal.

Rays have actually been developing hitters for a couple years now and have traded for hitting prospects

Okay, Dave. The Tigers need bullpen help, especially lefthanded. Jake McGee is the next best thing to Chapman. Gooooooo get him, its exactly what the team needs, even if playing for next year.

The Tigers could use BP help like McGee for sure, but who do you see them sending back to the Rays? They had a pretty underwhelming group of prospects before the season began and most have underachieved. Maybe they can make a 3 team trade with Price and the Rays get the prospects. Not sure that would be enough without the Tigers chipping in something else, but at least it would be a start in the right direction.
