Joel….don’t you understand that Beltran has a full no-trade clause….Also the Yankees don’t need Samardzija…If they pull CC it would be for either Warren or Severino…And for Zobrist…they can have their choice of any prospects not named Judge.Severino.Mateo.Wade.or Kaprielian……

Yeah, Yankees will need to sacrifice one of their big prospects if they want someone who can play multiple positions and is a great defender.

Agreed.. The A’s gave up their top prospect to get him.. There is no way they will take a low level prospect for him.. With so many teams rumored to be after him somebody will wind up overpaying.. Also, Cashman has been chasing Samardzija since last year.. I doubt he is going to all of a sudden lose interest..

So a team that has a policy against NTC’s have had 2 players go 10-5 on them this year. A little ironic.
RichW
Giving a NTC in a contract is far different than having it vest via the CBA. Tell us what you would have done differently?

The Jays should trade Dickey for Niese and Parnell which would be an even trade. New York owe the Jays big time for stealing Syndergaart and d’Arnaud for Dickey. Syndergaart would have looked good in the Jays starting rotation now while Dickey has shown repeatedly that the numbers were right and he is a disaster in the AL, just like when he was with the Twins.
Draven Moss
I’d say there is no way the Mets do that trade. They are interested in trading Niese because they have superior pitching options and only so many roster spots. Dickey makes more than Niese if I am correct, and Parnell is a good reliever. Also, I would say at this point that Niese is superior over Dickey, and is cheaper. It would be foolish for the Mets to do that trade.

Why would the Mets want Dickey? They wouldn’t even want him if the Blue Jays were giving him away for free. They have Harvey, deGrom, Syndergaard, Matz, and Colon with Wheeler coming back next year and Montero and others on their way up. They don’t have to owe anything to the Blue Jays because of their own mistake.

The Blue Jays, more than any other team in my opinion, need to go all-in for 2015 and 2016 and trade for Cole Hamels. Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion are huge bargains at 14MM and 10MM per season respectively, as is obviously Donaldson at 4.3MM and whatever his arbitration salary will be next year, before his salary will rise significantly in 2017. Even if they trade for Hamels, they can turn down RA Dickey’s $12MM club option next season to help pay for Cole Hamels’ salary. They should also go after Francisco Rodriguez on the Brewers. That is a championship team.

Agreed, I don’t think any of our prospects should be declared untouchable right now, I think AA should load them all up on the truck and drop them off in Cinncy or Phili for either a Cueto/Chapman or Hammels/Pappelbon, just keep our 25 man roster together and use the Hoffmans, Norris, Pentecost & Pompeys to land a big fish
John Hawkins
Agree that the Jays need to make a move to add a starter and a reliever but totally disagree that Hoffman or Norris need to be added in any trade. I would trade for a rental and try to resign him in the off season. There’s a reason the Red Sox and Cubs didn’t met the asking price for Hamels, if you don’t grow your own core you will not be successful.
If you are truly a fan you would understand how making the Marlins and Mets trade did nothing but hurt the future.

I am actually a Tigers fan, but I don’t think the Blue Jays did that poorly in either trade frankly. RA Dickey has not been the Ace they traded for, but they aren’t paying him 20MM a season either, and at the very least he’s been dependable for innings these past two seasons. Syndergaard is only now breaking into the major leagues and would not have helped them the past two seasons. Jury is still out on whether he becomes a bonafide ace. D’arnaud has yet to breakout also, and they would not have signed Martin this year if they still had D’arnaud. Martin has been a great signing.
As for the Marlins trade, while Josh Johnson didn’t work out, Buerhle has also been a dependable back of the roration innings eater and Reyes has been much better than Hechevarria. Hechevarria is having his first good season this year. Marisnick hasn’t done much either.

The Ynkees need to call up Luis Severino to fill out their rotation. Why trade away young talent when they have some where they need it?

that looks weird. i don’t understand how NYY is in a solid position just because the AL East is weak. NYY is really in a precarious position because AL E is winnable for basically all the teams (well ok, maybe not BoSox) not to mention that at this rate, even making it to postseason probably means getting swept. CC is done as a effective starter, has been for a couple of years.

General Manager Sandy Alderson is going to do what he does best, nothing! If he is doing anything right now, it’s comedy! The Mets could and should trade Neise, and perhaps others such as Murphy at this point since this season seems to be already lost.
