Stephenson threw fairly well. Five innings, six hits, two runs, two earned runs, three walks, six strikeouts. He threw too many pitches (94) and too many balls (35), but that’s been his mode of operation throughout his career.

Eh. A hernia doesn’t affect your arm going forward so I’m not sure how that impacts Taillon’s prospect status. For example AJ struggled with one all last year, got it fixed, and is pitching at near career levels this season. The only thing this wasted year hurts is you really wanted him to pitch about 100 innings at AAA this year so he’d be a viable option next season. With this year being a wash I don’t see him contributing to the Pirates next season until September call-ups.

At least Taillon didn’t sign a major league contract after being drafted. The O’s had to do that to sign Dylan Bundy, and next year he’ll be out of options and the team will be forced to put him on the roster or lose him despite TJ surgery and a calcification in his shoulder costing the majority of two seasons.
