Can we talk about MLB suspending Utley during the playoffs? What a joke.

I get that times change, and I’m sorry about the broken leg, but that play happens at least once in almost every baseball game I’ve ever watched at any level.

I get that times change, and I’m sorry about the broken leg, but that play happens in just about every game at every level. If they want to change the rules, great, change the rules. But if I’m
Utley I’m grieving the crap out of this one.

iPhone app crashes when you post sometimes, sorry about the double.
wants to be a GM
I think if the Tribe loves Perez so much, (I do too) they should think about trading Yan Gomes. Even though Gomes had a rough year, I think he’s still probably one of the more valuable trade chips in the league. I’m not sure he’s more valuable to the Indians than to anyone else if he’s serving a backup role. Think about what Gomes would fetch in a trade.

Jim Souhan needs to take a breath. Mauer should be dropped in the order as he hasn’t been hitting like a #3 at all lately, but I don’t quite get where he came up with the super sub in the field thing.

Primarily because Mauer at first base is useless. He produced 1.5 WAR this season, the same number as Eduardo Nunez. Twins don’t want to limit Sano to DH, and moving Mauer off first gets Sano on the field, and allows us to keep Plouffe, who is a superior player to Mauer at this point. Trading Plouffe to make room for Sano simply doesn’t make sense, when Plouffe was the most productive offensive player this season.

The thing is, a positional logjam doesn’t make it a good idea to play Mauer in the outfield or at third. If the goal is to get Sano in the field, the solution at this point could be to just DH Mauer and then figure out who between Sano and Plouffe should go to 1B. Mauer’s defense at 1B is what tanked his WAR. He spent all year dribbling to second UNLESS there were runners on, at which point he’d rake like there’s no tomorrow driving him to the second-most WPA on the team behind Sano, something that the overall more productive players struggled with despite grinding out a lot more counting stats.
