Oswaldo Arcia could be a nice buy low candidate for any team. He offers significant power and the twins lost a good amount of leverage upon demoting him.

It sure would have been nice if Arcia didn’t hit his way backwards on the organizational depth chart. I felt like Rosario was initially called up as an interim move waiting for Arcia but he owned LF from day one (pitch one!).

That was my feeling as well, but I have a hard time seeing Arcia working his way back onto the OF depth chart now. He could open the season as a right fielder/DH with Buxton in the minors, if Hunter isn’t re-signed. But, I think it’s more likely that he’s moved somewhere this offseason. I kind of like the notion of swapping him for one of the disappointing young catchers — Zunino or Bethancourt. Both are projects from an offensive standpoint, but the defensive tools are there, and the Twins have virtually nothing in the system except for Josmil Pinto, who has tons of defensive question marks and hit very poorly in a concussion-shortened 2015 season.

It’s hard to let Arcia go when you’ve watched the dude get around on a fastball a few times, but combine our young OF depth with his being out of options, being all over the place in all the wrong ways in the field, and being as inconsistent as he was this year, unfortunately he’s likely going to be someone else’s project.
C depth is a major issue here. Suzuki doesn’t play the position quite well enough to put up with his bat in the lineup full time, and I definitely wouldn’t hitch my cart to Pinto.

Just goes to show it’s all about where you’re standing. As a Tigers fan that’s watched Alex Avila the last 4 years, a catcher who can hit .240/.296/.314 over 450 plate appearances sounds like a godsend to me…
Steve Adams
Avila’s been a better hitter over those four years — .224/.334/.360 — unless you’re just referring to Suzuki’s durability.

Wonder if the Padres and Twins might connect on some sort of deal that centers on Arcia, Hicks and Norris.

I wonder if the Twins have any interest/could acquire Starlin Castro. He’ll be 26, he’s owed about $8 MM next year, is under contract until 2019, and he would get to move back to his primary position. Even with the Cubs playoff run, Baez and Russell are their middle infield of the future and the future is now. Castro is the odd man out.
I don’t know if the Cubs would have any interest in Hicks, although both Fowler and Jackson are free agents. Hicks is an above average defender, is a switch hitter, and is finally hitting in the majors.

The Twins already have Starlin Castro, but his name is Eduardo Escobar. He’s put up nearly the exact same production as Castro the last two years and costs approximately 7 million dollars less than Castro and he’s not eligible for FA until 2019. I think this year is Escobar’s first arb eligible year, so that price won’t be as significant but likely still pretty significant. It would make zero sense for the Twins.

Seattle could provide a solution to Twins’ SS need in the form of Brad Miller or Ketel Marte.

Twins Fans!
I’m wondering how you think Danny Santana will fair in 2016? Have they given up on him? Thanks for any replies!
