This situation has the looks of one that will go horribly wrong.

Can the O’s receive draft pick compensation for O’Day? I can’t remember the rules on compensation when it comes to relievers.

I believe the rules are the same for all players. He would need to get a QO (about $16mill this year) and turn it down.
Steve Adams
That’s correct. I’d be very surprised to see an offer for O’Day and would expect that he’d accept and have a $16MM-ish salary next year.
The O’s will make QOs on Davis and Chen, receiving comp picks if/when they leave. I think they’ll make one on Wieters, too, as I don’t see any way that Boras would make a prime-aged catcher with power the first to accept the QO, even in the wake of a poor season.

Has any Boras client accepted a QO? Actually off the top of my head as I sit here at work, I can’t think of one accepted QO.

Not under the new model. Last I can remember was Maddox accepting arbitration under the previous method

Rafael Soriano is another example of a player accepting arbitration (with the Braves before being flipped to the Rays), which of course is under the old system.

As it stands right now, no player has accepted a QO.

I could see Wieters accepting a QO to get a shot at having a better contract year, but with Boras who knows.

The question is does Buck want to return, when he got a Young ,Talented Team Ready in Miami to take him to the World Series.

I think what he meant to say was, They will absolutely hate each other’s guts next year.
