Crazy they’d dump a 22 year old 2014 top 100 prospect after one off year.
Ray Ray
They didn’t exactly dump him. Flores is a nice OF prospect and the Brewers felt they needed more help in the OF than in the IF.

I posted before I knew the return, oops. You are right, this trade is decent for both sides.

I feel that Dipoto may have seen something in him. Luis hasn’t proven much in the Majors. I see Luis Sardinas being like a younger Willie Bloomquist.

If I remember right, Dipoto wanted to focus heavily on improving overall team defense, and acquiring Luis Sardinas will absolutely help accomplish that goal. Defensively, Sardinas is excellent, and even if his bat never really develops, he could still have a pretty nice career as a glove-first utility middle infielder at worst, and that’s not without value.

He’s a trade chip for some help at relief pitching and first baseman if any teams need an infielder.

I’m shocked that the Padres didn’t go for this guy

I mean, dipoto doesn’t seem to love his roster or anything so maybe look at ketel marte? Chris Taylor? Especially now. Agree that the pads might as well put 8 men out without a shortstop.

I thought San Diego was rumored to be interested in Sardinas last season, but talks never really went anywhere.
Maybe San Diego didn’t bother trying for him this offseason, or maybe they did and they just couldn’t agree on what to trade to Milwaukee for him, or maybe Stearns and the scouting staff had decided that Flores was a “must have” piece for the organization, and when the chance to acquire him presented itself, they just locked onto that, and ignored any other possible scenarios that may or may not have been available to the Brewers for Sardinas.
