the question I ask, what will become of Mike Zunino as starting catcher? Will he return in that role? Or will we see a platoon type situation at that position? very interesting that we haven’t heard much since he was sent to the instructional league last August. Jack Z’s last move before being fired as GM…

Prob want to see how he plays in Spring Training before a future assessment can be made.
jr428
He showed promise in Spring training last year, hitting the ball the opposite way, and being more patient, but it didn’t translate to the regular season. I agree about waiting to see what he does though
philly435
The Mariners really screwed him up by calling him up so early

Span and Lagares seem like the best CF options.
I wonder if the Orioles might have some interest in Trumbo.
R.D.
Feel like lagares would cost wayy too much for a weak farm and poor offense team.
stymeedone
Who would the Mets play in CF if they traded Lagares? I’m thinking he’s not available unless they acquire a replacement first.
Card_Bauxite
Yeah, that’s what occurred to me. He’s on the list, though; I dunno what the Mets are thinking.

Chris Taylor for Rymer Lirano, who says no?
seamaholic 2
Who cares … doesn’t really help either team that much. Padres need a lefty hitting something, and they can find a glove-first, righty SS in a lot of places. Don’t need to trade one of their last decent prospects for one.

Mark Trumbo was not traded from LAA to SEA by Dipoto. He was traded from LAA to ARI by Dipoto, then traded a year and half later from ARI to SEA.

This team unforunitly has my biggest bold prodiction of the year though it is a sad one…The Seattle mariners to fix what the old gm started will trade King felx and Robby cano to the yankees in exchange for cash, Brett gardner,Arron judge, and Andrew miller
Phil253
Getting cash from the Yanks won’t help the rebuilding of the farm system. Certainly trading Hernandez and Cano would disenfranchise the already Seahawks and Sounders leaning fan base. The Mariners need to keep fans in the seats and keep the core they have. The M’s aren’t hurting for money with the tv deal from the other year. Trading Montero and sputtering/stalling prospect who need new scenery are much better options. Zunino could also be good trade bait, but it’s worth seeing how he has progressed this offseason.

There’s no way either team would take that trade. Seattle gives away its two best players for a prospect and two good players, that is neither rebuilding nor making the team better. Felix is worth probably 2 of a team’s top five prospects and another top 10 prospect so the Mariners wouldn’t be getting any value back. Also the Yankees wouldn’t want Cano’s contract. The reason they didn’t resign him was because he wanted 10 years and the Yankees were only willing to give him 7 and a higher AAV than the Mariners were offering. Plus that trade makes no sense in terms of filling holes created. Yanks would have a gaping hole in their outfield if they traded Judge and Gardner and would be giving up their closer and no relief pitcher/prospect would be coming back to replace him. Seattle on the other hand would have no one at 2b to play especially since Miller was just traded.

Plus Felix is on a bargain of a contract. 4/104 and only 29 years old when the best right-handed starting pitcher on the market (Greinke) is expected to get somewhere in the 5/130-150 area and is three years older. Granted Greinke is coming off a monster season and Felix hasn’t put numbers like that up in a single season yet, I would think Felix would still have more value. If Felix was actually available I’m sure the BoSox would be the first ones calling since they need an ace and have the guys necessary to pull off a deal. Plus Dipoto just came from there and probably would already have prospects in mind he would want.

Re-Sign Hisashi Iwakuma SP 2 year $30m
Re-sign Franklin Gutierrez to platoon with Seth Smith in LF.
Sign Joakim Soria to close. 2 year deal.
Sign Denard Span for CF. 3 year deal.
Sign Alex Avila to Catch. 2 year deal.
I would not bid on any player with a QO attached.
The Mariners should improve with a seasoned closer and more innings from Kuma, Walker & Paxton.
Add a veteran arm to Triple A like Chad Billingsley as the 6th starter.
Look to deal Jesus Montero to a team that can use a DH.
Add depth to Bullpen.

I’ll pass on Avila, too many concussions and injury prone. Maybe on a one year, prove-it deal but if he goes through injuries again then Zunino will be back playing everyday. I’d be fine with Ianetta since he could probably be had for cheaper than Avila and isn’t as big of an injury risk.
