Would u trade Niese , Montero , Lagares PTBNL for Jayce Peterson and Markakis
cyclone24
PTBNL is Reynolds
disgruntledreader 2
If Markakis was placed on waivers, claiming him would be a bad decision. So, no I don’t think I’d trade four guys for him and a utility infielder whose actual first name is apparently not even worth knowing.
ThorsHammer34
That package has very valuable rotation depth options in Montero and Niese (who could also help in the pen) plus Lagares who we’d be dealing at a bad time with his value dropping. We could do a lot better than Peterson at second, and Markakis just gives us a 4th corner outfielder (Granderson, Conforto, Cuddyer already there). So no, I definitely wouldn’t do that

Big picture question: if MLB were created today, would there be a 40-man roster and these arcane rules and deadlines causing waves of free agents, such as the Rule 5 draft roster deadline and the arbitration tender deadline? Seems absurdly complicated to me.
tim815
40 Man roster is important for the players. It forces teams to start their clocks before it appears they are ready. The amount of complexity adds to the value of executives.

Anyone who thinks that the Angles are made up of either Washed up old overpriced First-basemen or Overrated pretty boy second rate Centerfielders!!! (Go Rangers!!! 2015 AL West Campions!!!)

I’m sorry, Trout is one of the best hitters in the game. Putting up those numbers in that ballpark is incredible. His fielding and base running might not be as dynamic as it was in 2012, but he can flat out play.

Royals don’t seem like a team that would sign anyone who costs their 1st round pick.
Jeff Todd
I’m not convinced they wouldn’t. Gave up lots of young talent to get pure rentals at the trade deadline, so parting with more distant prospect value for a longer-term add doesn’t seem crazy to me. And their first rounder is the least valuable in the game, of course.
Window is open now, so if the right opportunity arises, I think they have to be willing to punt the pick.

If the Giants sign Leake and Fister and call it an offseason I will attend zero games and buy no merchandise. For 40 dollar bleacher seats to Tuesday night games and 12 dollar beers, the fans deserve more than that.
yourfacedude
The fans deserve better than what? two decent pickups that would help solidify your rotation and put you back in contention for the division again? What an entitled brat….3 WS championships in the last 6 years and here you are still crying. No one will miss you at the games.
JoeyPankake
When your team is raking it in year after year, has tons of money they weren’t able to spend last offseason, and everything at the ball park costs an arm and a leg, you do feel entitled to top of the market talent. Charles Johnson doesn’t need any more billions. A rotation of Bumgarner and a bunch of mid to backend starters didn’t work last year and it won’t work again this year when the Dodgers have two aces and will almost certainly have two aces again. So yes, the fans deserve better than Leake and Fister.

Wonder if the Padres and Astros might match up on a deal that looks something like Cashner + Alonso for Carter + Gustave.
Alonso’s contact approach could actually make sense in that lineup, Carter and Gustave both have the one massive tool each that Preller seems to love, and if some of Cashner’s downturn last year was related to the back-and-forth during his mom’s treatment, going home to Houston could be a good platform for his walk year.
batman
Id love for the Pirates to try and swing a deal for that Cashner Alonso Package

For what it’s worth, Chris Carter and Mark Trumbo were born the same year.
Carter has posted 2.2 fWAR in 528 career games, including fWAR of 0.5, 1.8 and 0.3 the last three seasons.
Trumbo has posted 6.1 fWAR in 690 career games, including fWAR of 2.3, -1.2 and 1.1 the last three seasons.

I think Leake would be a great fit for the Blue Jays

Granted this is a late comment so no one is likely to read it, but to say Carter has been better than Trumbo is a joke….. right? If anything they’re essentially the same player. It’s not fair to compare the two on the last three years alone since trumbo was injured much of 2014. Still, looking at the last 3 years of Trumbo’s career his pace says he’s about a .240 hitter with a .300 OBP and a .443 SLG. While slightly worse in the slugging and on base departments he is hitting safely more than Carter is by about 25-30 points in batting average. Trumbo also has put up a 30 HR pace the last 3 years…… when he plays the whole year. He’s set a pace the last 3 years that if he plays 162 games he’ll get 75+ Rs and about 95 RBIs. Carter, while not much worse, has put up a pace of 70-90 respectively.
Now Trumbo is more expensive, but to say that Carter has been better is laughable. IMO they both don’t deserve to be on MLB teams and I’d through Pedro Alvarez in that club as well.
