Any team who looks at Heyward as a “secondary option”, will not be signing Heyward.
bravesred 2
From what I’ve seen, Heyward hasn’t had much interest.
Acuña Matata
Well we’re talking about a $200,000,000 investment… Cueto just got his first offer. Teams are trying to see what the others are doing first before pulling a trigger on something that could hamper them for the next 8 years
andyb
yah I can’t see who is going to pursue him besides angels and cardinals
Acuña Matata
Not true at all. He’s secondary for a reason. Priority is probably Pitching and thats universal for every team that can afford him. If Heyward is secondary theyre going after one of Greinke or Price. If either of them land elsewhere, the Cubs have enough prospects to trade for some teams entire rotation. Leaving them to make a massive bid for Heyward
There may or may not be slight bias as I want Soler on the Braves
justinept
Exactly. The Cubs are fairly easy to read. They’re ‘in’ on David Price, but if his price tag goes past $220 million over 7 years, then the guess is that the Cubs look to Heyward. As you said, acquiring Heyward would allow the Cubs to deal Soler – who has more than enough value to bring back one of the young pitchers reportedly on the trade market (Miller, Teheran, Salazar, etc.)
Lance
hard to justify superstar money for a guy who has never produced even close to superstar numbers. no questioning his athletic talent. but had he produced Mike Trout numbers he would have had a Trout contract by now.

Mo is too smart to sign Davis for what it will take to land him. no worries on that front.
cardfan2011
Well Mo knows how to handle the free agent market. However, his trades (particularly with Cleveland) haven’t worked out, so hopefully no trading lol
RedFeather
They really have no need and (can’t afford) to trade at this point. Any additions should come from FA. Plus when was the last time Mo traded in the offseason? He is a midseason trader.

Trade Duensing
aff10
He’s a free agent

Mets are much stronger at 2B (Flores and Herrera) than SS (Flores, Tejada, Reynolds), so getting Zobrist makes less sense than getting a strong defensive SS.

Zimmermann to Detroit. Price to the Red Sox, Heyward as a “secondary” option….. I have a feeling Theo and Hoyer overhyped the crap out of this offseason.
RedFeather
Hey I live in STL and root for my home team but I think Theo is playing it smart. The Cubs were ahead of schedule last year as they we suppose to compeate in 2016/2017. They haven’t seen the Lester deal pay off (I know its only been 1 year) and they will probably invest in a duo mid of the rotation guys such as Lackey and the Shark. Would certainly make more sense given how dominated Aerrata was last year. Why spend 150-200 Million on another single pitcher than spread out that money (and less then) with two midline pitchers?
dlevin11
Boston had 2 midline pitchers to trade now in Wade Miley and Joe Kelly. Go for it Cubbies.
