Great article – very well written. But.. am I the only one that misses the old format where these long articles were shortened with a “read more” tab at the end? This post on top of previous mile long “everyone who filed for arbitration” list takes up damn near whole page lol

I’m wondering why Josh Donaldson isn’t listed as a comp?
FrozenRopes
JD isn’t listed because he hasnt been through the process yet. He would need a finality to compare.

He’s got his own post: mlbtraderumors.com/2016/01/arbitration-breakdown-j…

And he won a MVP, which changes the way his arbitration is going to go. He has more bargaining power in that he can use that as leverage.
Jeff Todd
I misread your comment, or something, though the link is still worth perusing.
I think the real reason he isn’t a comp is that Donaldson was a Super Two last year.
Arjonn
Okay, I knew he was a super 2 but had no sense if that was enough to omit him as a comp.

The Orioles should just skip the whole arbitration thing, and sign him long-term.
But they’re too damned cheap, and Manny will be in pinstripes in 2019.

Keep wishing that buddy lol

lol

I’m not wishing for it. I’m a Manny fan. I wear a Manny Machado t-shirt with his name and a number 13 (which happens to be my favorite number anyway) on the back.
I’m just facing the stark reality. All Oriole fans should do the same.

A team that offered Chris Davis $154M is too damn cheap? Even if they were “cheap” teams always prefer to sign players long term rather than deal with arb. Those contracts generally eat up a couple FA years and end up costing the team less $$$.
ln13
Okay. Maybe cheap was the wrong word.
let’s use “stupid” instead.

I know 3rd base is a tough position. But 1st base isn’t as easy as most people think it is. But just like Boog Powell, Chris Davis gets little credit for how good the O’s infield defense is now. Because Machado included the O’s infielders threw a lot of balls in the dirt for Davis to dig out, and much to his credit he is very good at that. Bet you dollars to doughnuts that if Davis leaves the O’s commit at least 15 more errors this coming season than last season.
