Congratulations to JJ Hoover!
In the past couple of years he’s put up FIPs of 4.97 and 4.47… with ERAs of 4.88 and 2.94, and win-loss records of 1-10 and 8-2. His numbers were mostly much better in 2015, but his strikeouts went way down. It’s remarkable how differently luck has broken for him over the past two seasons, to put up such different results, without really getting better or worse.
Just a year ago a lot of Reds fans wanted him released for silly reasons like a 1-10 record, and now many of the same want him to get the first shot at closing. Jumbo Diaz, Tony Cingrani, or one of the young rotation candidates may put up some competition for the closer role, though.
I’m surprised the Reds went through an arbitration hearing, after avoiding them as a policy for so long.

Isn’t cingrani a starter?

They got rid of Chris after that as well. Hoover deserves to be the closer!
