Wooing Kyle Kendrick doesn’t sound like much fun
cxcx
Kendrick seems like an obvious rotation choice to start the season; probably Chacin, too, if he’s functional. I would option Wisler: he has like a 4.75 ERA between the majors and AAA; he needs a lot of work. Plus, if you keep him down for like three and a half months you get control of his age 29 season which would be pretty huge if he ends up being good.
NL_East_Rivalry
Kendrick yes if they were trying to compete and needed an innings eater, but they aren’t. It makes no sense to trot him out there while other players are waiting their turn. The only reason I can think he makes the team or would hope he does is if he has a good enough spring that they think they can flip him in a couple of weeks when Folty returns.
Braves need to have their starters face Major League pitching this year so they can be ready for it next year and beyond. Kendrick only stunts the competitiveness of the team later on to improve their chance in a throw away year

Wisler is a pretty polished prospect, he does need to work on his secondary offerings a bit but Braves clearly tried to change something with him last year and he did poorly, let him continue to get ML experience and reevaluate in 6 weeks. Wisler was a heavy GB% guy with the Padres in the minors, since he came to the Braves his GB% went way down even in the minors, it’s really weird.
R.D.
Over two outings totaling 4 1/3 innings, Wisler gave up 14 runs. He was pretty steady otherwise, hence why he’s ahead of ManBan and Perez in the depth chart. Kendrick seems like an emergency option to me as the only reason the braves may need him is if there’s an absolute implosion from all of the young Braves.
Chacin was once an above average starter and could very likely be a big trade chip at the deadline. I’d expect Teheran/Wisler/Norris/Chacin/ManBan out the gate unless Folty impresses. I’d be suprised if any of them but Teheran and Wisler make it through the season in the rotation.

Whoops

Detroit never had the playing time to offer Desmond. All they could have offerred was a super utility role, to a player that has only played SS. Also, Detroit’s lineup is mostly RH, so even a possible platoon for regular playing time was unlikely. Already being over the cap, how much more generosity do you expect from Mr Illitch?

They need to commit to -.7 career fWAR Nick Castellanos. They have a lot of faith in a player who has been a disaster on defense and hasn’t even had a great start to hitting in his career. They had playing time easily
tuner49
The 2016 offensive projections for Castellanos are better than Desmond and I believe he had better numbers in 2015 too. He hit .342/.372/.535/.907 with RISP for 2015.
He turns 24 in 3 days, is pre-arb eligible, and will be starting his 3rd full time year in the majors. His defensive numbers greatly improved last year and will be better this year.
You do not hamper his growth by limiting his playing time.

Numbers with RISP is meaningless, it’s 99% randomness in a small sample.
Castellanos has underachieved his projections significantly every year he’s been in majors. For a team looking to win now they sure are ignoring an obvious hole. Also I’d take the over on the incredibly pessimistic Desmond projections that have as a 85-90 wRC+ player. If Castellanos was competent in the field I’d understand sticking with him, alas he;s not and has proven incapable of playing even a below average 3B, he’s much worse than that in the field.

Desmond has never played 3rd base, cost almost 16 times more $$$, and trending down. As “stymeedone” stated, the Tigers did not need another RHB to platoon. Castellanos has much more upside and his RISP numbers are not meaningless. There is no “randomness” to full time ball players having AB with RISP, it is clutch hitting. You are being overly optimistic regarding Desmond and too quick to judge a young player with only 2 years of full time play at the ages of 22 and 23. I respect you having an opinion but do not agree with it.
Gogerty
Would not be surprised if Teheran is moved. The Cubs are a decent match as they need rotation and prospect depth with pitching. Could see Soler and Contreras for Julio, Wisler, and lower prospect.
Gogerty
Could see Teheran moved at some point this year. Braves match up with Cubs well in a trade, centered around Teheran and Soler.
sdsuphilip
I’m not sure why the Cubs would do that

Do we all have to start calling AJax “Francis” now?

compairing machado to donaldson is almost compairing apples to oranges. machado has been injured and has shown some upswing but not even close yet to donaldson.
