The Mets just wanna get rid of him sooner…
Steve Adams
If that were the case they’d have just non-tendered him in December.

I find this quite interesting. Not only did the Mets overpay him by a small amount (Matt and I had the same projections and individual analysis confirms those numbers should be accurate), but the Mets gave up a year of control. I know Tejada was almost assuredly going to be non-tendered anyway, but I’d be interested to know what the Mets thinking on this was.

They would have lost that grievance. Saves the litigation money as well.

This isn’t particularly noteworthy, since Tejada is a utility guy. That being said, does anyone know if this could be a precedent for the cases for Bryant or Franco? Not sure how that works

I don’t believe it will be as they were still rostered on a minor league club, here Tejada was in limbo for a few days waiting to be given an assignment, it’s pretty clear this was about service time manipulation, Bryant and Franco were argued they still needed development time..

Ok, I see the distinction, but Bryant was recalled the day after his cutoff date, and Philadelphia optioned Asche but waited two days to recall Franco for him to miss the cutoff by a day or two. It seems fairly clear that those were as much about service time as Tejada’s, although your point that Tejada could not possibly have been improving because his season was over is noted, and maybe that’s the difference.

Baseball Reference has it wrong then. They have him FA in 2018.

Because until this arbitration settlement, it was 2018. I’m sure BR will be updated accordingly. Sheesh.
