Ah, the good ole day days. Still can’t believe Hrbek pulling Gant’s leg off first was given to him. Ole Charlie Liebrandt did us in though. RIP Kirby – miss your class.

Loonies Smith getting deked on the bases might have been the entire series. That must be one of the single most impactful mental errors of all time.

Whoa whoa whoa. As I remember it, Herbie simply kept the tag on a falling Gant. 🙂

And I can’t edit of course

One of the greatest game 7s of any WS.

Jack Morris with the guttiest pitching performance I ever saw

Remembering Les Straker could win you a few bar bets.
Monkey’s Uncle
No kidding. 1987 was his first, and only, big-league season, and he never pitched in the bigs again after 1988.
I liked those Twins teams because they seemed to me to have a lot of guys like Straker, guys who had been around baseball a long time without success before being a Twin, and then put together a really good season or 2 to become a key World Series contributor. Carl Willis is a perfect example, Juan Berenguer on the 87 team is another.

Berenguer was integral to that 91 Braves run as well. Just an amazing match-up of underdogs…shame to see either side lose. That was the season that winning 100 games didn’t even guarantee a pennant. Probably this more than anything…with expansion…brought about the wild card system.

Testing comment editing…is it possible?
Yes, for me. But maybe not everyone yet.

Would love to see more articles like this one on all teams..
If Jays didn’t start Candiotti 2x in 91 it might of been a different series..
Tony Wagner
Mark Guthrie wasn’t a minor league free agent, he was a 7th round draft pick.
I’ll also quibble with the idea that David West was a “key member” of the 1991 staff. 🙂
Otherwise, a fun trip down memory lane! Cool insights about the Morris signing.

Yeah herby just kept the tag on
