Just yesterday he said the Braves’ organization was much better than NY’s. Trés awkward.

So if he was put on waivers, does that mean Atlanta had no chance to retain him?
what if he cleared waivers like he did and New York didnt claim him back, would he just be outrighted off of Atlantas 40 man
NL_East_Rivalry
If atlanta wanted to keep him they would have to make a trade after he clears waives ala Scott diamond

Since he was drafted by Atlanta via the rule 5 draft, their only choice for him if he doesn’t make the 25 man roster is to return him to his original team. So they put him on waivers. Any other team can claim him, but he has to stay on the 25 man roster. Since no team claimed him, he just goes back to NY

If he clears waivers, he’s offered back to his original team (Yankees). If the Yankees said they don’t want him back, the Braves then send him to the minors
davidcoonce74
I’m guessing they sent him back to NY him because nobody could figure out how to pronounce his last name

By the looks of it his numbers were pretty good in the minors last year and he has had a decent spring. You never know if a guy will be able to translate those numbers to the majors but the Braves need all the help they can get. So why not give him a chance and if they are in rebuild mode he’s only 24 so he’s still young.

I understand that carrying 2 rule 5ers on the roster is pretty tough but the Angels have a spot open on the 40-man (Rob Rass retirement) and are looking for a lefty BP guy.

Waivers? I didn’t know Rule 5 draftees had to clear waivers before being returned to their old organizations. I know they can be traded. Wonder if this is wrong.

It’s textbook how it goes. While most players on the 40 can be “optioned”, Rule 5 guys can’t be. They are run through waivers. If unsigned, they are offered to their original side.
Rutckyj the first of a few this spring.
