Well, hopefully he gets stationed at Pendleton so he can at least watch a few games. Semper Fi Nick!

Took me a second… Well done

I was going to go with a Chiba Lotte reference, but this was better. Well played.

Beat me to it!

Had a feeling he was the one the Padres would deal. He is a decent pickup for the Mariners. He’ll never be closer material, but his cutter is decent.

PTBNL could be Blash? That way he does not need to be on the MLB roster

Before a Rule 5 guy can be sent to the minors, they have to clear waivers. Even if he gets traded.

Pretty sure blash was already traded to the Padres from the Mariners
tim815
And the Rule 5 rules still apply. He can be traded, but not sent to the minors unless he clears waivers.

Blash is already on the Padres. Mariners trades him last year I believe. Plus Mariners owe Padres a player

Blash was a Rule 5 claim by the Athletics, then traded as PTBNL in the Alonso/Pomeranz deal. Presumably Patrick was thinking of it as a trade to allow the Padres to retain his rights if they send him down.
That’s not what’s happening here (and technically couldn’t happen that way), but guessing that was the thought process in the above comments.

I don’t know the Marines had an MLB team! (I kid, I kid)
I wonder who the PTBNL will be?

According to A.J. Cassavell this trade is NOT for the right to send Jabari Blash down to AAA. It looks like they plan to just roll with him for 2016.

Looking at it now that Blash is now on the wire– deal could be worked out
