Who gets signed first?
What about Alexei Bell? Is Bell viewed in the same light as the elder Gurriel?

It’s easy to imagine any number of roadblocks on the way to Cuban players signing with MLB teams by any means that does not involve the player defecting from Cuba. Will teams be allowed to scout in Cuba? Set up training camps? Will the Cuban government be directly involved in deciding who is allowed to sign with teams outside of Cuba? If so, how much cash payment will they demand for players allowed to leave?
Moving in the right direction, but such early days.

As you say, a lot left to work out. This doesn’t lift the prohibition on making payments to the Cuban government for instance. Not much incentive for Cuba to allow defection.

And, of course, if a player isn’t under contract with a team and comes directly to the States, he’ll be here without a visa and have to leave the country to documents.

Never understood why American kids were forced into the draft and Hispanic kids could come right into free agency. seems like a crappy double standard to me. Either do it one way for all or make it fair for the American kids.

The cuban players should enter drafts just like the us players do. Not fair how cuban players get to get millions and go to a chosen team and us players dont. Cubans are over rated

Hopefully at some point making the majors won’t involve a daring escape.
