Surely glad the Yankees passed on that.
chri
Yeah with Heyward and upton being one year rentals that would have been a desperation “win now” move
MB923
I believe you’re thinking of Justin Upton. The proposal has Melvin Upton who is still under contract for 2 more years , and everyone knows how awful he’s been.
chri
Wow oops messed up completely on that one. Thanks for the correction.
Would have made that deal even worse for the Yankees lol. At least that 2015 roster would have been decent with Justin upton and Heyward
jacobywankenobi 2
I would’ve been super sour about that. Didi was a much better pickup. Simmons is probably the best defender on the planet, but their offense was comparable. Didi was acquire for a MUCH lower price though, which makes him the wiser move.
yanks02026
That would have been a HORRIBLE trade for the Yankees.
Gogerty
Would have been a good trade for Atlanta, but glad they didn’t do it either. We got more out of trades we made of Heyward and then Miller and Simmons. Although Samchez and Judge would have been nice to have.
wants to be a GM
Outstanding article, CC. Good luck!
chop
The Braves almost stole more prospects…but we may not have gotten Dansby Swanson with that deal either.
Gogerty
Yeah would have been a good trade, no Swanson but also no Bourn or Swisher. So many angles to look at.
thecoffinnail
Almost stole? If you read the actual article it sounds like Atlanta called Cashman and made this offer and Cashman hung up. Apparently, Coppy thought all GM’s were just like Stewart and would accept any trade he proposed. The money alone in that deal would be a no go for any team. Two awful contracts in Upton and Johnson, 1 year of Heyward, a decent back of the bullpen pitcher and a glove (albeit amazing) only SS for pretty much the entire Yankees farm at the time? Never would have happened.
Gogerty
To be honest, as a Braves fan, it is good to see Coppy making strides for the long haul. That would have been a ballsy trade.
With Servino’s year, he could have probably been flipped in the same manner as Miller.
Who is to say with Heyward and Simmons, Yankees could have been back on FA track as opposed to the core players concept.
Plus with that trade, Kimbrel trade might not have been necessary.
Phillies2017
Even in retrospect that trade is insanely lopsided.
timyanks
sandoval needs to reposition his glove in front of his mouth while he isn’t on the field
Yogajonny
Haha. Lol. Hands down the best comment ever. Well done Slide.
tdrury
Jesus Christ does cashmen suck what part of the trade seemed like a gd idea
Otto371
youre critisizing him for not making a trade that you think was a bad idea??? am i missing something?
ctguy
Cashman was smart not to make that deal. The Yanks are much better off keeping the players that would have gone to Atlanta. Severino, Judge and Sanchez are keepers.
yukongold
You don’t trade 3 future hall of famers for a 1 year rental, a bad contract, a defense first short stop (Yanks got one of those for lowly Greene), and a crappy reliever. Severino has Ace potential.
RunDMC
wait…Judge, Severino, Sanchez are future HoFers…………??? whoa. good luck with that
JamesM
Woah calm down with that. 3 future hall of famers? None of them have even played a full year in the big leagues. I’ll be damned if any of them end up in the hall.
mike156
No, he doesn’t mean that, He has a particular dislike for the Yankees. Expressed both sarcastically and sometimes just pure negativity, without embellishment.
MB923
yukongold is a trolling Red Sox fan who claims Yankee fans and the media say their youngsters are future HOFers, when In Reality, it is the Boston media (and quite possibly the fans) that does it with Boston’s youngsters:
Like this one – boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bas…
And this one (5 players listed Lol) – masslive.com/redsox/index.ssf/2015/01/the_next_fiv…
Similar to that guy slothbroth. I wonder if it’s the same guy with another user name.
Cam
3 future HoFers? settle down.
thecoffinnail
@MB923 Agreed. That Masslive link has Christian Vazquez on their list. That one amazes me. I can understand Ortiz or Pedroria but Vazquez is laughable.
danfromfreddybeach
did you read the masslive.com article? It does not say that the 5 players listed will make the hall of fame. Even for Ortiz it lists reasons why he might not get in. It does say that projecting young players/prospects to make it to the HOF is folly. All the article was doing was listing the 5 players with the best chance of making it provided they continue along the track of previous players with similar numbers at the same stage of their careers.
For sure, Vazquez is a bigger stretch to make the comparison than the others on the list because they are comparing him to Yadier Molina before he made a jump up on the offense side.and Yadier is not in the HOF yet, if he makes it at all.

Alcoholism is not a disease, it is an addiction. They are two seperate things.
disadvantage
Alcoholism is a disease because it is a pre-existing disease that affects the brain, causing an alcoholic to crave alcohol in the same way one craves food and water. In other words, if you do not have alcoholism, you can go to the bar every night and get drunk and nor necessarily become an alcoholic.
start_wearing_purple
And I think that attitude is what leads to shaming and makes people avoid treatment. Teaching self control is meaningless if people can’t know themselves.I come from a long line of alcoholics. I know the compulsion I feel after a bad day. Or if I have one drink the rest of the bottle will be gone before the night ends.
I treat addiction as a disease because all the science says my brain reacts the same way it would to any other disease. I treat it as something that I need to manage every day of my life.
wil1447
Very smart and wise comment ottino shows how much you know
mateodh
Wasn’t Chris Johnson still with the Indians when Heyward was traded to STL?
Gogerty
No, had not been traded yet.
chieftoto
The Braves need to make a move at the trade deadline for Judge, Mazara, Benintendi, or Winker to bolster their future outfield.
Gogerty
I would say if Inciarte continues to progress the way he is, lock him up on a good extension. Also, hope Mallex Smith is what we expect, our OF looks great. Come 2018, I hope the team lines themselves up for a good FA OF pickup.
I know this is too far out there, but Harper will be a FA in 2019-2020. Otherwise, Davidson has time to mature and make it.
