The Sux aren’t even going to have the best bullpen in their own division. That will be the O’s.

The internet needs the same signs as zoos. DO NOT FEED THE ANIMALS.

the best thing we can do to shut bigpapi up is to post the Red Sux W-L record every day as the season gets on. They won’t get far from the basement, and every single day we can shove his face in it. It will be b-e-a-utiful.

No way the best bullpen comes from the east not when they have to face the gauntlet that is the blue jays lineup and all the other powerhouse offensives in the AL east it probably comes from a week offensive division like the NL east where they can walk the best and pitch to the rest
RunDMC
Now if your Sox can only address the guys picking up the ball the first 5-6 IP.
alexmiller6677
That’s just asinine of the Red Sox. Shields is still better than everyone aside from Price in their rotation, and will give them much needed innings.
petrie000
you’re one of those people who laughed at those of us who said Rick Porcello’s peripherals raised a lot of red flags, weren’t you?
johnsilver
I also get tired of all these topics now getting destroyed ( Tim.. Please fix this will you?), and must point out that Shields has had trouble at Fenway park dating back to his rookie season. Maddon would try to work his starts around fenway even sometimes because of his struggles there.
Not saying wouldn’t take him with a supremely discounted rate and dirt cheap (like dead weight contract swap of Sandoval that won’t happen), tho that is the only way would take him. He’s now in the perfect league and the perfect stadium for his extreme flyball tendencies.
gmlivers98
You’re an idiot. The Sox pen is not even close to even having the potential for the top pen. The Yankees actually have a stockpile of very talented young arms like Shreve and Mitchell. You and your idiotic ideas need to shut up
Samuel
The Red Sox remain a rotisserie league team – like an adolescent in a toy store always wanting to give back what he/she just selected because he/she saw something on the way to the cash register that was brighter and shinier. Been going on pretty much since free agency started.

Oh, Please… Learn something at least about the history of MLB FA and weird signings, or owners who had no farm systems and made up rosters each year out of FA.. Georgie replaced his roster out of FA from 1977 onward, except for the 2-3 years of collusion.. Those years we got to see his farm system produce wonders.. Such as Joel (mule) Skinner…
Lets not forget Brad Corbett of the old late 70’s Texas Rangers either.. No Siree.. He got stuck in an airport in Texas onetime during a snowstorm, which Mike Jorgenson happened to be at also during the winter of ’78 while Mikey was a FA and it didn’t matter that Corbet already had one of the best 1b in the game in Mike Hargrove.. He signed Jorgenson, non hitting self, but great glove to a 3y deal.. Funny stuff…
You kids who don’t remember Jorgenson? Carbon copy of Casey Kotchman.. Could catch anything near the bag, only couldn’t buy a hit.. Kinda’ like current Rays 1b Loney… The guy Rays owners gave 3/30m to…..
Nah.. Boston never did than Sammy…. Others did/do tho…
bringinit247
Many other pens will be better the your sox! The O’s have one of the best BP’s in all of baseball.
smitty32291
a shame our rotation is crap, though…
bringinit247
Truth! Rotation and OBP are the two holes in the O’s team. The O’s with the best rotation in the ALE would win the division. Can’t have it all I guess! Just gotta hope some guys figure it out and Gallardo isn’t a bust!
gmlivers98
Yeah nice joke
gmlivers98
The O’s pen is garbage
dwilson10
That’s why their bullpen was ranked in the top 5 last year and is expected to be just as good this year
No Soup For Yu!
You must not know a thing about the O’s bullpen then. Here are some highlights:
3.21 ERA (5th in MLB; 3rd in AL)
518 SO (T-3rd in MLB; 2nd in AL)
6.4 fWAR (1st in MLB by a full 1.0 fWAR)
As for who’s in the pen this year, it’s more of the same. Zach Britton, Darren O’Day, Mychal Givens, Brian Matusz and Brad Brach all compiled 10+ K/9 rates. Britton, O’Day, and Givens all had ERAs under 2.00 while Matusz and Brach both had ERAs under 3.00
I also feel it’s worth mentioning that Britton, O’Day, and Givens all compiled sub-2.0 BB/9 rates as well.
TLDR: FACTS! Cry more.
bringinit247
lol too bad y’all don’t know anything about baseball! Thanks for the stats No Soup!
petrie000
thank you for this. for a moment there i almost thought this was an article about the Yankees bullpen and not the Red Sox. A day without such a thing would have been horrible to have to endure….
Cam
That blows the “dodgers sign everyone” narrative out of the water.
Facts never stopped people having opinions though.
start_wearing_purple
We were talking about former GMs when we said that.
petrie000
to be fair that only really ever applied to Cubans anyway
thechiguy
Oh Man!!!!!!!!!!!! I had no clue that CC was a threat to go to the bullpen! Yikes! A $25MM bullpen guy is crazy to me! That is totally insane!
*I am totally thrilled that Fowler came back to the Cubs, but I honestly think he was the piece that would have balanced out their lineup, and it would have been sweet for him to get 30+MM in free agency. But all things considered I am happy he is back. But I would have rooted for him anyway if he went to the O’s.
*Looks like the yanks are not so thrilled about losing Warren. If you are searching for someone to replace him, I assume that his value was under-appreciated
*In a one on one battle for playing time(even though I can’t follow the BoSox as much as most), I think Holt is the best option over Rusney. CY looks to be getting more time than expected. YIKES!
MB923
Hey the Giants at one point had not one but Two $20 Million relievers in the pen (Lincecum and Zito)
thechiguy
Man! That sucks! The Cubs had $13MM man Jackson in the pen last year for a short amount of time before they eventually cut bait. Sorry for the Giants going through that… But I sure hope that CC wins the rotation spot so that he won’t be a dead spot on the roster and he is at least useful in the rotation.
lwashisaliveandwell
My take away from the article about Holt and other remarks about Shaw stealing at-bats from Pablo is that the organization has its head in the right place. We got a lot of question marks with Pablo/Castillo/Hanley (Less so than the others though considering he has looked OK at 1B and historically he hits well).,We appear to have lots of quality depth so as long as they play the best guys its whatever. Def excited that the team is putting pressure on the dead weight. In a side note I think Kellys spring training performance could be indicating that last seasons late run of dominance wasn’t a fluke. Not gonna project him too high or anything but from watching spring games im starting to believe the kid is becoming more of a solid piece than a question mark as many have said in blanket statements about the Sox rotation.
Soxn8tion
Well said bigpapi4ever. I think I speak for everyone when I say that you always say whats on our minds. So thank you for making this site better. Our Sox should be a lock for the WS at this point. Haters will hate, but after we go 99-63 this year, we’ll laugh our way to a championship. RedSox > Everyone Else
madmc44
Pablo and Wright for Shields =–no money exchanges hands.
OR Porcello for Shields even up.
AidanVega123
Porcello for Shields wouldn’t really make a lot of sense for Boston.
B-Strong
Neither did Cespedes for Porcello, but here we are unfortunately.
stymeedone
I never understand the “he lacks experience” criticism. No rookie would ever make a team. If ever there was an opportunity to provide a player with experience, with a low level of pressure, its in middle relief. If that’s the only concern, PLAY THE PROSPECT. if there are other concerns, by all means, speak up. Everyone knows what you are likely to get from the experienced/retread player. The young player might positively surprise. What’s to lose?
Ken M.
The Yankees should just pass on CC and Nova for the 5th spot. They should put potential ACE Kaperlian or top prospect Luis Cessa in the 5th spot.
se7enwils
You are just a troll right? There is no way your comments are legitimate.

True
dwhitt3
All of those guys are very good options. They’re all Major League ready. You obviously haven’t seen much of them
OneBuffalo_Twin50
This is so ridiculous, the sox pen has as much potential as the diamond backs getting a wild card spot. If anything the Os will have the best pen in the AL east
galihaaben 2
Remember those “CC Sabathia for Matt Kemp” straight up rumors years ago?… I bet many Yank fans wished that could have occurred. It could have potentially prevented the Yankees from signing Ellsbury and probably use Ellsbury’s money to resign Cano.
blackleather
Preller aint dumb….he knows about the prospects of every club, like he’s some sort of savant. And I would bet a little money that Moncada’s name came up, on Preller’s end of things, when Boston started asking about the top 3 starters in the Padres rotation.
and since a trade for Moncada, straight up, makes sense on paper (because his deal is comparable to the money thats left on Shields’s deal), I imagine Boston didnt feel good about giving up Moncada, straight up, under any circumstances.
despite this conventional wisdom that some in Boston have about Preller fleecing the Sox, with the Kimbrel trade, I dont buy that. It was a solid trade all around…Boston got what they needed, and Preller got what he wanted. But I have a very hard time believing that at some point, in talks with the Red Sox, Moncada’s name was NOT brought up.
Moncada would fill a big need, for San Diego….and Preller knows that.
