Hopefully, Smith finds his control and excells in the closers role. The Angels need to make some trades so they can get a few prospects in their farm system. If they are out of it at the deadline Smith would make a nice trade chip.
This is a little off topic and Angels fans will probably rip me apart for this suggestion. What if they were to trade Trout and Pujols (his entire contract) to the Yankees for Gardner (Yankees pay half of his contract) Refsnyder, Sanchez and Judge? Granted in Trout they would be giving up the face of their franchise and the best player in baseball but they would shed one of the worst contracts in MLB and pick up several blue chip prospects. They would essentially free up a ton of payroll which they need badly while also loading up on some solid prospects. Gardner could take over CF, Judge would replace the Nava/Gentry platoon, Refsnyder could actually get a chance to prove he can play 2nd (imo he should be starting for the Yankees this year but they always seem to avoid giving the young guys a real chance) and a young catcher with a very good bat, who is one of the best if not the best catching prospect in the game.
This seems like a win-win for both teams. Granted nobody wants Pujols contract but the Yankees could easily absorb it. He could take over for Teixeira next year and become the full time DH when ARod retires after 2017. The Yankees would avoid a massive contract to Harper (not sure if they are going to chase him or not but that seems to be the consensus) while still getting that one player that can sell seats and can singlehandedly carry a team. Plus, they have Torrens (C) Mateo (SS) and several OF (none anywhere close to Judge but this is Trout they would be trading for) prospects to replace what they are trading.
I know its a pipe dream but a guy can dream, and also once again drunk post. Thanks for reading my long winded rambling drunken rant about a trade that will never happen. I am finally cancer free and I got loaded to celebrate. Feel free to tear my suggestion apart now.

Congratulations on being cancer free. I agree with Hozie, I’ve read worse trade scenarios from sober people. Kind of early in the morning to be bringing the heat, but I can appreciate it…

I’m not sure I see the Angels packaging Trout and Pujols. I think a revamped farm system is more important, so I imagine they trade Trout by himself (if at all) to maximize the prospect return

Congrats man!

Trout would get a lot more attention being in New York, he deserves it

I’ve read worse trade scenarios from sober people…….congrats on being cancer free. But I doubt the Yankees would take on Pujols contract since they are about to shed $100Mil in bloated payroll after this year and they will be done with A-Rod after next year. I think they are trying to get cancer free as well.

Congrats on beating cancer. Angels would never part with Trout for those prospects and getting rid of Pujols contract. After this year weaver and Wilson are off the books and the next year Hamilton as well. They can afford to have a bad contract in alberts and keep trout and build around him.
